About the Job

The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a full-time term faculty position to serve as the Director of the new Quantitative Resource Center. This is a non-tenure-track appointment to start fall semester starting August 24, 2026.

Candidates will be considered for the rank Teaching Assistant Professor or Instructor, determined by qualifications. A Ph.D. is required for the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor (9403T) and a master's degree is required for the rank of Instructor (9404).

Duties include coordinating staffing in the Quantitative Resource Center, overseeing math placement, liaising with other departments and colleges, and mentoring learning assistants, and teaching assistants. This position also involves teaching, and applicants are expected to teach a wide range of mathematics and/or statistics courses. Candidates should show evidence of teaching excellence and demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population.

Duties & Responsibilities include teaching (approximately 50%), directorial duties (approximately 40%) and service (approximately 10%). Directorial duties include coordinating staffing, overseeing math placement, mentoring student assistants, and liaising with other departments and colleges. Teaching duties include the following: develop and teach courses (in coordination with other faculty members), demonstrate high command of the subject matter, have well organized course plans and deliver courses clearly to students, help students fulfill their academic needs, assessment and grading, and hold office hours. Service duties include meeting attendance, committee work as well as other service and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Necessary Qualifications include a master's (9404) or Ph.D. (9403) in statistics, mathematics, or related field awarded by the time of appointment from a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications include previous teaching experience at the collegiate level (such as teaching assistant experience) to a diverse group of students, previous experience administering academic support, evidence of effective teaching, evidence of scholarship in mathematics or statistics education, and effective written and oral communication skills appropriate to the position. A Ph.D. credential is preferred.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $52,000.00 - $56,000.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience
