PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational

  1. Is responsible for effective management of services by delegating through assigned personnel. Evaluates daily care and delivery activities and makes operational changes as necessary to improve service performance.
  2. Develops goals, objectives, policies and procedures which meet patient, departmental and hospital needs.
  3. Develops and maintains systems and procedures to ensure efficient patient throughput.
  4. Actively participates on hospital committees, which address clinical and operational issues. Provides input into hospital-wide policies that cross division lines.
  5. Effectively modifies operations based on staffing utilization and productivity reporting.
  6. Coordinates purchasing activities to ensure supply and equipment needs are met.

Fiscal Management

  1. Develops appropriate capital and operating budgets and is accountable for the achievement of budget objectives.
  2. Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking in resource utilization.
  3. Participates and or initiates cost containment activities.
  4. Evaluates equipment and supplies for cost effectiveness regularly. Analyzes product and service offerings from manufacturers and distributors. Identifies alternatives and makes recommendations for consideration.
  5. Supervises supply coordination for the ambulatory surgery center including managing invoices and service contracts specific to the center.

Human Resources

  1. Determines human resource needs and develops programs to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the assigned units.
  2. Recruits, hires, orients and evaluates performance of assigned personnel to assure the department is staffed with individuals who reflect the behavior and performance stands consistent with the hospital's Mission and Values statement. Has authority to hire, terminate or take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with hospital policy.
  3. Develops and administers a master staffing plan in compliance with assigned FTE budget.
  4. Identifies educational and training needs of the center staff and plans with the Clinical Development Specialist and other staff members for assistance with implementation of training.

Quality Management

  1. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies. Collaborates with Surgical Services Quality Manager to develop, administer and monitor the Center's QI plan.

Communication

  1. Communicates daily to coordinate services and manage operational activities necessary to provide an efficient, quality service. Advises Manager and Director of systems problems which negatively impact the effective operation of the Center.
  2. Maintains medical staff communications by interacting regularly with surgeons and anesthesia providers. Responds effectively and timely to physician issues or concerns.
  3. Recruits and retains new surgeons and discusses pertinent operating policies for effective transition into the Center medical staff.
  4. Regularly communicates with Center staff to disseminate information. Seeks to create an understanding of hospital wide performance and strategic direction.
  5. Demonstrates effective communication with staff, peers, surgeons and anesthesia personnel.
  6. Maintains feedback to Surgical Services leadership team with regard to combined processes.
  7. Resolves conflicts and other issues exercising professional judgment in the application of policies and procedures.

Leadership

  1. Integrates ambulatory surgery services with the hospital's primary function and the department's strategic goals.
  2. Coordinates and integrates services within the Center and with other departments as needed.
  3. Develops and implements policies and procedures to guide and support the provision of services.
  4. Determines the qualifications and competence of personnel providing patient care services.
  5. Continuously assesses and improves departmental performance.
  6. Selects outside sources for needed services as appropriate.
  7. Develops goals, objectives, policies and procedures suited for the ambulatory surgery patient.
  8. Evaluates research findings and uses evidence based practice in the delivery of nursing care.

Service

  1. Demonstrates service excellence behaviors routinely in encounters with all customers, co-workers, patients, visitors, and physicians.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a minimum of five (5) years of intraoperative and/or perioperative nursing experience with at least two (2) years supervisory, managerial, or other responsible nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Health Care Administration from an accredited college or university.
  • CNOR
  • ACLS certification.
