The Role

The Director, Hospice is responsible for providing oversight of the daytoday operations of the hospice ministry, ensuring the quality and coordination of care, promoting costeffective service delivery, and supporting the financial viability of the organization.

This role helps define and achieve hospice goals and objectives through effective operational leadership, clinical oversight, and strategic program development. The Director represents the hospice to healthcare professionals and community stakeholders and ensures full compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

In partnership with the management team and system hospice leadership, the Director leads the development and execution of operational and growth strategies aligned with the mission, values, and philosophy of Providence and the hospice ministry.

What You'll Do

Hospice Operations & Clinical Oversight



  • Oversee all hospice services, ensuring highquality, coordinated interdisciplinary care for patients and families.
  • Ensure hospice care is delivered by qualified field personnel and aligned with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Identify trends and recurring clinical or operationalissues and introduce process improvements in collaboration with staff.


Strategic Planning & Program Development



  • Participate in the development and execution of strategic growth plans for existing and new hospice services.
  • Monitor operating budgets and contribute to longrange planning and business plans.
  • Lead development and implementation of programs that reflect Providence's philosophy, mission, and goals for hospice care.


Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Excellence



  • Ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, PHOS procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and accreditingbody requirements.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of hospice policies and procedures to support regulatory readiness.
  • Oversee compliance with infectioncontrol practices, universal precautions, sanitation, safety, and disasterpreparedness standards.


People & Workforce Leadership



  • Oversee the management team responsible for Clinical Operations, Grief Support Services, Access Services, and Facilities/Administration.
  • Lead interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary processes, including termination when indicated.
  • Identify and resolve staffing and staffdevelopment needs in collaboration with the management team.
  • Coordinate with the VP, Hospice Service Line on staffing approvals and workforce planning.
  • Foster a collaborative, compassionate, and accountable team culture.


Community Engagement & Representation



  • Represent the hospice ministry to community partners and professional stakeholders.
  • Participate in community education, outreach, and networking opportunities to promote public awareness of hospice programs and services.
  • Support public understanding of hospice, palliative care, and endoflife services.


OnCall Leadership Coverage



  • Participate in afterhours administrative oncall rotation as required to ensure continuity of leadership and operations.


What You'll Bring

Education



  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; or Social Work
  • Master's Degree in a healthcare field with hospice experience; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Master's Degree in another healthcare discipline with hospice experience may be considered.


Credentials



  • Hospice certification or advanced certification (preferred upon hire) .
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance (required upon request; role may require driving) .


Leadership & Experience



  • 2+ years of experience in hospice supervisory or management roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading interdisciplinary hospice teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of hospice and palliativecare practices.
  • Deep understanding of Medicare Conditions of Participation and hospice regulatory requirements.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
