Bring your oncology expertise to a growing leukemia program where advanced practice providers are essential clinical partners in delivering highly specialized, patient-centered malignant hematology care. UVA Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Malignant Hematology - Leukemia team in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is a compelling opportunity for an experienced NP or PA who is drawn to complex leukemia care, independent ambulatory APP practice, and the chance to grow within an academic medicine setting that values collaboration, teaching, and specialty development. The area is growing, with the APP team expanding from three providers to four providers and additional physician growth planned- 2 to 4 within the leukemia program. The Role In this role, you will help care for patients with leukemia and other malignant hematologic conditions across the continuum of treatment, including care before, during, and after chemotherapy. The practice is primarily outpatient and offers an independent APP clinic model with physician collaboration, giving you meaningful autonomy while keeping you connected to a highly specialized multidisciplinary team. The strongest candidates will bring oncology experience, chemotherapy management knowledge, and a commitment to high-quality cancer care. Leukemia experience is highly desirable, but motivated APPs with strong oncology backgrounds or significant oncology nursing or clinician experience may also be competitive. Skills such as bone marrow biopsy procedures, disease-specific leukemia knowledge, specialized oncology workflows, and chemotherapy-related competencies can be developed as part of onboarding and growth in the role. Key aspects of the role include: Managing leukemia patients receiving treatment before, during, and after chemotherapy Building and maintaining an independent ambulatory APP practice Working within independent APP clinic templates in partnership with leukemia physicians Caring for patients with leukemia, additional malignant hematology populations, and rare hematologic diseases Performing procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, with potential for skin biopsies depending on service needs Collaborating with ambulatory APP colleagues, leukemia-focused APPs, myeloma APPs, lymphoma APPs, leukemia attending physicians, and an expanding physician team NCI designated cancer center while participating in a collaborative multidisciplinary cancer care environment Supporting education through teaching, precepting learners, and opportunities for presentations and academic involvement Developing specialty expertise through professional growth based on individual strengths and interests The schedule is especially attractive for oncology APPs seeking meaningful specialty practice with a sustainable rhythm. This is a primarily outpatient, Monday-Friday ambulatory position with no weekends, nights, or call. Advanced Practice Provider Scope of Practice: Clinical Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice Acts as part of a specialty team, collaborating with other clinicians as appropriate Provides health education to patients Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory standards Leadership Supports development of best practices and protocols in specialty Serves on committees and workgroups to enhance patient care Provides education to learners in the clinical space Mentors new team members Administration Contributes to clinical quality improvement work Participates in professional governance through the APP Council Attends team development meetings at local and departmental levels Professional Adheres to ASPIRE values in all professional interactions Maintains appropriate licenses, certifications, and specialty training competencies Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree. Experience: Department and unit specific. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
