SUMMARY:

The Director, Environmental, Health and Safety, is responsible and accountable for developing, implementing and leading EH&S programs for the company. The position is responsible for identifying and controlling hazards and risks and to maintain compliance will all regulations that deal with worker health and safety and environmental health and safety.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS-OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:

  • Role will have several core functions, including but not limited to EH&S Management, Incident Management, Client Support, Safety Culture, Compliance, and Environmental Sustainability.
  • Plan and implement EH&S programs including safe handling of potent compounds.
  • Identify risks and control strategies. Perform risk assessments on new/changed processes and agents and make recommendations for engineering and administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
  • Develop a strong safety culture, ensuring all incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented as appropriate
  • Effectively communicate with all levels within the company.
  • Build cross-functional relationships and collaborations between departments to foster support for the EH&S program.
  • Lead and direct the EH&S team and oversee/direct the work of contractors and EH&S service providers.
  • Manage complex problems and coordinate the implementation of innovative solutions.
  • Leads customer and Federal, State, and local governing agencies in audits of PCI Environmental Health and Safety Program.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory permits (County Hazardous Materials Business Plan, Health Permit, Air pollution control District permits for generators, Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit, and EPA ID Number).
  • Contribute to the development of long term goals and objectives, metrics, targets and KPIs and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule].
  • Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices.
  • Embodies PCI Pharma Service's cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health, Safety, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the environmental health and safety preferably in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or other health care industries.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership/supervisory experiences.
  • Experience with techniques such as FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis), RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis).
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, within prescribed guidelines, or as a team member.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, essential in dealing with people at all levels and in a variety of functions including technical staff, business team leaders, hourly personnel and be able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional certification (CHMM, CSP, CIH) preferred.
  • Experiences in managing and implementing industrial hygiene programs involving potent compounds.

  • Directs and provides expert knowledge in the strategic function of EH&S.
  • Develops short and long-term people and organizational strategies in alignment with PCI Pharma Services goals and direction.
  • Leads with impact & influence. Establishes credibility, effectively persuades and develops others, and achieves important objectives collaboratively.
  • Identifies, recruits, and retains top-notch talent.
  • Champions PCI Pharma Service's culture and empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.
  • Sets performance standards and encourages employee engagement and results through delegation, continuous feedback, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Maintains transparent communication. Appropriately communicates organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.

  • For candidates in San Diego, CA, the hiring range for this position is $133,920 - $150,660 annually, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus
  • Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to specific and relevant experience, education, credentials, geography, and subject matter expertise
