Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the overall operation, safety, and upkeep of headquarters buildings, grounds equipment, facilities, and fleet vehicles. This hands-on position involves performing maintenance and repair work in varying weather conditions, assisting in project planning and coordination, and providing leadership of maintenance staff, volunteers, and housekeeping personnel. The primary goal is to ensure that facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable for divisional Headquarters Officers and Staff. Occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call hours are required.

Essential Responsibilities:

General Maintenance & Repairs



  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance for facilities, including buildings, garages, warehouses, and vehicles.
  • Perform light repairs in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, and general building systems.
  • Inspect systems such as HVAC, fire safety, roofing, and vehicles regularly.
  • Complete daily work orders, maintain logs, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and coordinate with vendors as needed.
  • Keep records of vehicle mileage, work performed, materials, and equipment used.


Safety and Compliance



  • Conduct safety inspections of facilities, vehicles, and equipment, report and correct hazards promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety, health, environmental regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain equipment per manufacturer and safety guidelines.
  • Uphold "Safe From Harm" standards in all work practices.


Grounds and Outdoor Areas



  • Coordinating the maintenance roads, parking lots, walking paths, signage, fences, and landscaping.
  • Assist with lawn care, tree trimming, snow removal, and seasonal grounds work.


Project Support and Leadership



  • Provide directions to maintenance workers, housekeeping, or contractors.
  • Monitor inventory and request materials as needed.


Event and Guest Support



  • Prepare facilities for events, including set-ups, teardowns, and equipment placement.
  • Respond promptly to guest service or staff maintenance requests.
  • Expanded offsite event support as it relates to transportation to local and divisional events: World's Tallest Kettle, Oakview Memorial, Radiothon, etc.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:



  • High School diploma/GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • 3-5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a facility or large-property environment.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Strong knowledge of general maintenance trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC preferred).
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations for facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems efficiently and safely.
  • Competency in using power tools, hand tools, and small machinery.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership or training experience preferred.


Computer Skills:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Proficiency in using job-related software applications, online systems, and web-based tools
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed


Certificates & Licenses:



  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical certification and meet all State of Michigan licensing requirements for operating large trucks.
  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
