The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is seeking a talented and motivated Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in Silver Springs, Nevada. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development, integration, and testing of advanced automotive technologies in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

As part of NATC's instrumentation team, you will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and test professionals to support the design, manufacture, and validation of innovative vehicle systems and solutions. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the planning, installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation of instrumentation systems across a wide range of vehicle platforms. This role ensures the collection of accurate, reliable, and high-quality data during vehicle testing and other project-related activities. The Instrumentation Engineer performs quality control checks, diagnoses and resolves technical issues, and works closely with cross-functional teams to support the successful execution of testing programs. Attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to data integrity are essential to ensuring instrumentation systems meet project requirements and deliver dependable results.

Primary Functions:



  1. Possess knowledge of professional electronics engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment
  2. Possess the ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches, and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes
  3. Possess the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers
  4. Responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of instrument assets.
  5. Facilitates the selection of appropriate sensors based upon the data requirements of the engineering/test operations groups.
  6. Responsible for ensuring the calibration of instrumentation in a quality and timely manner, using in-house procedures or through external vendors.
  7. Responsible for the proper scheduling and installation of instrumentation in support of designated project requirements.
  8. Interfaces with external vendors to provide calibration services including selecting appropriate vendors, monitoring quality of service, and establishing comprehensive vendor list.
  9. Understand and facilitate basic electronic and instrumentation theory to design and build custom instrumentation. Topics include anti-aliasing filters, ground loops, common mode rejection, signal to noise ratio, power consumption, etc.
  10. Acquires and reviews test data, recommends acquisition changes or subsequent data processing techniques to support technicians and engineers, and uploads collected data to the internal network.



Secondary Functions:



  1. Supervise the build and repair of cabling for sensors and acquisition systems using proper soldering and assembly techniques.
  2. Ensure the proper and safe operation of basic shop equipment and hand tools, following established safety rules
  3. Performs other duties as designated.



Pay:

$85,000 - $95,000



Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferably in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on electronics, equivalent experience acceptable
  2. Experience with instrumentation, electronics or metrology is a benefit
  3. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with varied work shifts.
  4. Have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Driver's License.
  5. Able to hold a U.S. government security clearance SECRET, if necessitated by future requirements.
  6. Have experience with NIST and ISO standards.
  7. Possess a sufficient understanding of sensor technology necessary to accurately measure parameters such as acceleration, force, displacement, strain, temperature, pressure, and velocity.
  8. Possess strong computer skills including data base entry, report creation, and report generation skills and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite.
  9. Be detail-oriented.
  10. Have excellent organization and time management skills.
  11. Be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.

Physical Demands:

  1. Performs tasks in a dedicated shop or in the field as project requirements dictate.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Must be able to climb onto, work under, and maneuver around vehicles.
  4. Must be able to walk on uneven ground.

Work Environment:

Work will be performed on-site in Silver Springs, Nevada, in a combination of office, outdoor, and shop environments and may be exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise.
