Your Role on the Team

Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director- Event Operations, the Event Manager is responsible for the facility event services at the Bren Events Center and occasionally for the Crawford Athletics Complex. The Bren Events Center serves as the home competition and practice facility for indoor Intercollegiate Athletics activity, as well as being the campus' multipurpose rental event facility. Serving a variety of clients and events that use the various use areas, incumbent will directly handle coordination duties such as intake meetings and site visits, prepare event estimates of expenses, coordinate event staffing resources, coordinate equipment rentals, prepare event diagrams and manifests, and supervise event move-in, event, and event strike, while ensuring code compliance and adherence to university, local, and fire safety policies. Position will serve as primary Game Manager for Men's Soccer and occasionally act as Game Manager for Basketball, Volleyball, and/or Baseball. Game Manager responsibilities may include, but not limited to: game operations, event staffing, event crowd control, communications with visiting team, officials and referees, customer services, university policy compliance, code compliance, and fan conduct.

Position will provide overall supervision for the Usher and Guest Services unit and will recruit, hire, train, schedule and supervise student assistants for both units. Will be responsible to create, implement and manage a comprehensive training program for Usher staff that may include but is not limited to: client services, operations policies on assisting patrons and guests, crowd control and crowd management, and use of ticket scanners. Will create, implement and manage a comprehensive training program for Guest Services staff that may include, but is not limited to: administrative office support, monitoring front desk activity, greeting clients, visitors, and guests, responding to and/or redirecting customer service related inquiries, direct phone call inquiries, managing lost and found items, and event support.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization and production.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in making decisions and managing events. Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high quality events that meet client needs.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities.
  • Highly developed judgment, decision-making and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills, including skill in determining those issues / problems that need to be brought to management's attention.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of student recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation.
  • Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines.
  • Experience maintaining a high standard of productivity within a broad scope of responsibility despite frequent interruptions. Ability to complete large volume of diverse tasks efficiently, meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively work with invited guests, donors, government officials and university VIPs.
  • Knowledge of crowd management, crowd safety protocols, security and emergency procedures related to small, medium and large scale gatherings.
  • Ability to give clear directives and use independent, rational judgment to make optimal decisions.
  • Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 3 years of experienceAt a university venue, athletic department setting, or a professional sports organization.
  • 1-3 yearsExperience planning and/or producing live events.

Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, programs, policies, achievements and infrastructure. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the use of University facilities, event management and presentation.

Special Conditions:

  • Must work nights, weekends and holidays when required

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $71,600.00- $73,116.00 (Annual).
