Cyber Intel Subject Matter Expert (SME - Part-Time)

Job Summary: Lafayette Group is seeking an experienced cyber intelligence expert to work with federal government organizations in support of national cybersecurity programs. The Cyber Intel SME will help transform complex cyber threat intelligence into actionable products, strategic insights, and stakeholder-facing communications that support coordinated cyber defense efforts across government and critical infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will apply expertise in cyber threat intelligence, threat actor analysis, emerging technologies, and cybersecurity operations to support product development, stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, and collaborative planning efforts. This role requires the ability to bridge technical cybersecurity information and operational decision-making, ensuring that cyber intelligence is translated into timely, relevant, and actionable guidance for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate combines strong cyber intelligence expertise with exceptional communication, analytical, and consulting skills.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to cyber threat intelligence, threat actor analysis, cyber operations, and emerging cyber threats.
  • Analyze cyber threat reporting, intelligence products, operational data, and open-source information to identify relevant trends and implications.
  • Support development of cybersecurity products, advisories, alerts, guidance documents, reports, and executive briefings.
  • Translate technical cyber intelligence into actionable content tailored for executive, operational, and technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, and critical infrastructure stakeholders to identify information needs and support coordinated cyber defense efforts.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities, workshops, tabletop exercises, and collaborative planning initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic communications efforts that increase stakeholder awareness and adoption of cybersecurity guidance.
  • Conduct research on emerging threats, adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), ransomware trends, vulnerabilities, and evolving cyber risks.
  • Support product performance assessment and continuous improvement initiatives through stakeholder feedback and engagement analysis.
  • Develop briefing materials, white papers, analytical reports, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Intelligence Studies, Information Systems, Computer Science, National Security Studies, Political Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience supporting cyber threat intelligence, cyber operations, intelligence analysis, cybersecurity programs, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing cyber threat actors, TTPs, malware campaigns, vulnerabilities, or emerging cyber threats.
  • Experience producing intelligence reports, threat assessments, analytical products, or executive briefings.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical cybersecurity concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain suitability, including successful completion of background investigation and fingerprinting requirements.

Desired Qualifications:
Candidates who bring one or more of the following complementary skill areas are especially encouraged to apply:
  • Experience supporting DHS, CISA, NSA, FBI Cyber Division, U.S. Cyber Command, intelligence community organizations, or critical infrastructure cybersecurity programs.
  • Experience supporting cyber threat intelligence operations, fusion centers, information sharing organizations, or collaborative defense initiatives.
  • Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK, STIX/TAXII, Diamond Model, Cyber Kill Chain, or other threat intelligence frameworks.
  • Experience developing cybersecurity advisories, alerts, intelligence products, or threat briefings.
  • Experience conducting cyber threat hunting, malware analysis, vulnerability analysis, or threat research.
  • Familiarity with commercial threat intelligence platforms and cyber intelligence reporting tools.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder engagements, working groups, or information-sharing forums.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GCTI, GCIA, GCIH, Security+, CISM, or related cybersecurity certifications.
  • Experience supporting strategic communications, product development, or customer engagement efforts within cybersecurity organizations.

Location: Arlington, VA/Hybrid or Remote

Federal Contracts: This position involves working on federal contracts that require all workers on the contract to be U.S. Citizens. Additionally, some contracts may require the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Salary Range:
$70/hr - $80/hr (est. 20-30hrs per week)
