Job Description:

Summary:

Based on the scope of the role & business needs, we're exclusively seeking candidates who reside in Albany/Capital Region.

The Business Consultant serves as a strategic partner between the Health Plan and its internal and external clients, leveraging data-driven insights to guide decision-making and improve healthcare outcomes. This role fosters a multidisciplinary approach by collaborating across departments including Sales, Pharmacy, Medical Services and Workplace Wellness to create a centralized reporting function. The consultant translates complex data into actionable recommendations that drive cost savings, enhance quality, and support organizational goals.

Essential Accountabilities:

Level I

  • Analyze enterprise-wide trends and present insights to senior leadership and internal and external clients to inform strategic decisions.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for consulting engagements, ensuring alignment with internal and external client needs and expectations.

  • Act as a liaison across internal departments to coordinate unified strategies aimed at reducing healthcare costs.

  • Facilitate cross-functional management teams focused on cost-reduction initiatives.

  • Continuously learn organizational initiatives and effectively communicate their relevance to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain reports and processes that track and raise awareness of healthcare cost drivers.

  • Consistently demonstrates high standards of integrity by supporting the Lifetime Healthcare Companies' mission and values, adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and leading to the Lifetime Way values and beliefs.

  • Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

  • Performs other functions as assigned by management.

Level II (in addition to Level I Accountabilities)

  • Promote the value of reporting systems and dashboards to executives and end users.

  • Align client needs with available analytical solutions and tools.

  • Contribute to the development of marketing and communication strategies.

  • Support the evolution of future analytical capabilities and tools.

  • Assists in the onboarding and training of new Business Consultants.

  • Participates and represents as a subject matter expert (SME) in cross-sectional team meetings or with business partner leads or other departments as needed.

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of all organizational benefit and program offerings to effectively communicate their value to clients, enhancing customer engagement and satisfaction.

Level III (in addition to Level II Accountabilities)

  • Create and analyze process documentation to improve departmental efficiency.

  • Assists in the onboarding, training, and mentoring of new Business Consultants, sharing industry knowledge and best practices.

  • Acts as a mentor to fellow Business Consultants, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

  • Proactively leads clients to new insights and identifies multiple opportunities for improvement and strategic alignment.

  • Lead team development initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrates elevated customer service standards by anticipating client needs, resolving complex issues, and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with employer groups, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Act as SME for the Commercial Line of Business related to group utilization, financial reporting and value story incorporation and trends for strategic planning.

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of all organizational benefit and program offerings to effectively communicate and promote their value to clients, enhancing customer engagement and satisfaction.

Level IV (in addition to Level III Accountabilities)

  • Serves as a strategic advisor to key employer groups and broker partners, delivering high-touch consulting and driving long-term value through customized reporting, insights, and recommendations.

  • Leads the development and execution of service strategies for top-tier clients, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maintaining a superior client experience across all touchpoints.

  • Proactively identify and implement process and team improvements.

  • Represents management on analytical projects, including decision-making responsibilities, attendance at Corporate and regional committees, and meetings with Senior Leadership.

  • Solve complex problems through innovative methods and original contributions.

  • Lead small team projects, facilitate meetings, and drive execution of goals.

  • Share expertise and insights to foster team learning and growth.

  • Enhance team meetings by contributing agenda items and coordinating impactful guest participation.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert on organizational benefit and program offerings with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and promote their value to clients, enhancing customer engagement and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

NOTE: We include multiple levels of classification differentiated by demonstrated knowledge, skills, and the ability to manage increasingly independent and/or complex assignments, broader responsibility, additional decision making, and in some cases, becoming a resource to others. In addition to using this differentiated approach to place new hires, it also provides guideposts for employee development and promotional opportunities.

All Levels

  • Three (3) years of experience in healthcare analytics or a related field.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline. In lieu of a degree, six (6) additional years of relevant analytical experience is required.

  • Master's degree or advanced certification preferred.

  • Proven ability in strategic thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and departments.

  • Skilled in managing competing priorities and stakeholder needs.

  • Understanding of internal and external client organizational dynamics.

  • Familiarity with analytical tools including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Power BI, SAS, and Cognos Analytics.

Level II (in addition to Level I Qualifications)

  • Five (5) years of experience in healthcare analytics or a related field.

  • Deep understanding of healthcare trends, data warehousing, benefit design, and financial arrangements.

  • Ability to identify adverse trends and unusual practice patterns.

  • Intermediate proficiency in analytical tools is required.

Level III (in addition to Level II Qualifications)

  • Seven (7) years of experience in healthcare analytics or a related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary consulting teams and facilitate strategic discussions with employer groups and brokers.

  • Expertise in healthcare and global compensation offerings.

  • Advanced proficiency in data visualization and storytelling using analytical tools is preferred.

Level IV (in addition to Level III Qualifications)

  • Ten (10) years of experience in healthcare analytics or a related field.

  • Proficient business acumen with the ability to negotiate, influence, and coach across all levels of the organization.

  • Proven success in navigating complex client engagements and delivering high-impact solutions.

  • Leads enterprise-wide initiatives that drive measurable improvements in cost, quality, or member experience.

  • Ability to build relationships across all levels, including senior leadership, to drive cross-divisional initiatives.

  • Advanced proficiency in analytics platforms and tools, with the ability to guide tool selection and implementation is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work prolonged periods sitting and/or standing at a workstation and working on a computer.

  • Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or trainings as needed.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 30 pounds or less.

  • Must have a valid Class D license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Compensation Range(s):

Level I: Grade E3: Minimum $62,400 - Maximum $106,929

Level II: Grade E4: Minimum $65,346 - Maximum $117,622

Level III: Grade E6: Minimum $79,068 - Maximum $142,322

Level IV: Grade E7: Minimum $87,766 - Maximum $157,978

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position's minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components of the total rewards package may include participation in group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plan, wellness program, paid time away from work, and paid holidays.
