Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare. The VHC provides emergency care 24 hours a day for existing patients and until 10:00 p.m. for new patients.

The Part-Time After-Hours Patient Service Representatives provide evening and weekend client services for the Veterinary Health Center. These services primarily focus on Emergency services provided by the VHC. Responsibilities include handling incoming phone calls for both large and small animal services, checking in patients, processing payments, assisting with financing needs, and coordinating communication between clients and emergency medical personnel.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Receive emergency cases and page trauma/emergency personnel as needed.
  • Maintain front desk receptionist duties to schedule and admit patients to the Veterinary Health Center.
  • Work closely with students, veterinarians, technicians and staff to ensure the veterinary business rules are followed.
  • Greet clients, verify personal information is correct, register patients in hospital information system.
  • Answer hospital emergency line, appropriately route calls, and gather information.
  • Discharge patient from computer system, collect money and make change.
  • Effectively manage dynamic, potentially stressful client encounter.
  • Maintain the general appearance of the waiting room and reception area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

These positions are part-time and provide important coverage outside of standard business hours. Shifts include weekend days, evenings, and nights; as well as coverage on holidays.

Shift options:

  • Weekend / Holiday Day Shifts: 7:30a to 3:30p or 8a to 4p
  • Weekend / Holiday Evening & Night Shifts: 3:30p to 11:30p or 4p to Midnight (12a)

Schedule expectations are that employees be able to cover 2 to 3 shifts per month. It is also expected that these positions will cover some university holiday shifts each year.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Six (6) months of experience with frontline customer service and guest relations duties and skills.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.00 per hour
