Position Summary

Children's Specialized Hospital is seeking compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse Residents to join our nationally recognized pediatric rehabilitation team. The RN Resident Program is designed to support newly licensed nurses as they transition into professional nursing practice through mentorship, clinical training, and hands-on experience in pediatric rehabilitation nursing.

Under the guidance of experienced nursing leaders and interdisciplinary team members, the RN Resident provides safe, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered care to children and adolescents with complex medical, developmental, and rehabilitation needs. The RN Resident develops clinical judgment, strengthens critical thinking skills, and gains expertise in delivering specialized rehabilitation care while fostering positive outcomes for patients and families.

Essential Responsibilities Clinical Practice & Patient Care
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies and professional nursing standards.
  • Recognize, assess, and respond to patient and family healthcare needs in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized pediatric rehabilitation plans of care.
  • Apply clinical knowledge and rehabilitation nursing principles to support patients with a variety of complex medical and rehabilitative diagnoses.
  • Promote continuity of care through collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and effective communication across care settings.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and seek guidance from experienced nurses, clinical leaders, and other resources as appropriate.
Patient & Family Education
  • Provide individualized patient and family education utilizing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive teaching methods.
  • Support patients and families in understanding diagnoses, treatment plans, rehabilitation goals, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of educational initiatives that promote patient and family engagement in care.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Function as an active member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, collaborating with physicians, therapists, social workers, educators, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support coordinated care planning and interdisciplinary interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding patient status, care plans, and emerging concerns.
Leadership & Professional Development
  • Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and ethical practice in all aspects of patient care.
  • Continuously evaluate personal clinical performance and identify opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Participate in residency program activities, educational offerings, competency validation, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for nursing assistants, students, nurse externs, and other support staff.
  • Assist with delegation of appropriate patient care activities and collaborate effectively with Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants.
  • Assume relief charge nurse responsibilities as competencies are achieved and demonstrated.
  • Keep nursing leadership informed of patient care needs, concerns, and operational issues.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards.
  • Advocate for patient and family rights while providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and contribute to a safe, supportive, and healing environment.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based nursing practice.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or commitment to obtain per organizational guidelines.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License required.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Experience
  • New graduate nurses or Registered Nurses with less than one year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous pediatric clinical experience through nursing school rotations, internships, externships, or healthcare employment preferred.
