Job duties/responsibilities

The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Art & Design invites applications for a part-time instructor and/or assistant professor position in Studio Art for the 2026-27 academic year. Persons selected will teach lower division courses to a diverse group of undergraduate students.

Appointments have an anticipated start date of the fall semester 2026 (8/24/2026). Appointments are usually made on a semester-by-semester basis for the fall and spring semesters, contingent upon student enrollment and the availability of funding.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Courses taught will include foundational-level studio arts courses taken by Art & Design students pursuing the following majors: Art BA, Art Education BFA, Graphic Design BFA, and Studio Art BFA, as well as courses for non-majors that are included in the Fine Arts category of the Liberal Education program. The primary course of focus will be ART 1011 - 2-D Design.

* MFA in studio art or a related field OR a BFA plus professional achievement that provides a depth of knowledge in the field comparable to an MFA degree. This might include evaluations by distinguished peers in the field or evidence of a professional level of accomplishment in the area(s) to which you are applying: Foundational Studio Arts.
* One or more years of college-level teaching experience (may include TA experience and community-based educational programming).
* Experience or demonstrated ability to teach 2-D foundational arts, including areas such as study of design elements and principles, including visual organization and color theory and their application in various media.

Teaching Asst. Professor (job code 9403T) Qualifications:
* MFA, or equivalent in Studio Arts or a related field (in addition to required qualifications above).

Pay Range: Job code 9403T: Annual 100% base is $57,218; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Job code 9404: Annual 100% base salary is $47,000-52,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
