Position Summary
The Academic Advisor advises undergraduate students served by Center for Academic Advising in the College (CAAC) at UCLA regarding academic requirements and options. CAAC is part of the Division of Undergraduate Education within the UCLA College and provides academic advising and related programs and services to approximately 21,000 undergraduates. Major responsibilities of the Academic Advisor in addition to academic advising include: participate in the development, administration and evaluation of all programs under the jurisdiction of CAAC and College Academic Counseling; participate in outreach activities, and evaluate student petitions and determine decisions. This position requires maintaining a regular schedule and on-time attendance. This position reports to the CAAC Director of Advising Staff and Administration.

Qualifications
Demonstrated skills and experience to counsel and advise students effectively with professional, academic and/or personal questions and concerns. (Required)Detailed knowledge of University and College degree requirements, academic policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, along with campus and community resources that support student success (Preferred)Skill in independently managing multiple projects and responsibilities, establishing priorities based on organizational needs and deadlines, and following through on assignments with minimal supervision. (Required)Demonstrated skill in problem solving and generating alternatives in order to improve operational processes. (Required)Demonstrated ability to build cooperative partnerships and communicate diplomatically and effectively with colleagues and representatives across academic units and institutions. (Required)Skill in speaking with persons of various cultural, social economic and educational backgrounds. (Required)Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare, analyze, and present reports, correspondence, proposals, and statistical data that are accurate, well-organized, concise, and tailored to diverse audiences. (Required)Skill in using standard office applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet. Adaptability regarding the use of office internal software and web-based applications. (Required)Ability to use discretion, sound judgment and tact in dealing with confidential materials and information. (Required)Working knowledge or ability to use UCLA's online academic student information system (OASIS), Counselor Desktop, and other online systems used for academic advising/counseling. (Required)Skill in representing CAAC to the campus and community, in advocating for, and in serving as a resource regarding assigned programs. (Required)Must be able to maintain regular schedule and on-time attendance. Be able to work evenings and weekends as needed. (Required)
