Your Role on the Team

The UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health is hiring a Visual Communications Specialist who will be responsible for producing a wide range of visual content and assets, including long and short form videos, graphic design, and photography, to support the overall marketing and communication goals of the school.

This role involves a combination of graphic design skills, video filming and editing capabilities, and a keen understanding of visual storytelling for the website, email communication, and social media platforms. The Visual Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in creating a visually compelling and consistent brand image across various mediums and marketing channels, contributing to the overall success of the school's marketing and communication efforts. This person will manage projects from concept to production, ensuring all work meets brand standards and deadlines. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working at the intersection of video content creation, graphic design, and photography.

A key member of Wen Public Health's Communications & Marketing team, the Visual Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Communications & Marketing and works closely with a Communications & Media Manager and a Marketing & Recruitment Specialist.

This is a hybrid position that will require on-site work for photo/video shoots that will mostly take place during normal work hours; however, some events may be held on evenings and weekends.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Working knowledge of concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the usage and applications of electronic communication tools and the matching skill-set to execute a communications & marketing plan.
  • Good written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Intermediate knowledge of posting on social media platforms, including: Instagram, LinkedIn, Blue Sky and YouTube.
  • Intermediate knowledge of managing a WordPress site or similar CMS systems.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and video editing software like After Effects and Premiere Pro (or similar tools like DaVinci Resolve).
  • Intermediate knowledge of email marketing software, such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, Hubspot or a similar program.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of the school/campus location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, programs and infrastructure.
  • Intermediate knowledge of using Canva or other simple graphic design applications.
