Director of Translational Research, Interventional Pulmonology

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at NYU Langone Health seeks an outstanding physician-scientist in Interventional Pulmonology to serve as Director of Translational Research. This leadership position offers a unique opportunity to develop and lead a nationally recognized translational research program focused on advancing novel diagnostics and therapeutics in Interventional Pulmonology andThoracic Oncology.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment that includes the NYU Lung Cancer Center, Translational Lung Biology Laboratory, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Perlmutter Cancer Center, and an internationally recognized Interventional Pulmonology program. Candidates shoulddemonstratea strong record of translational research, clinical investigation, grant funding, and academic scholarship, with a commitment to mentoring future physician-scientists.

Key Responsibilities

Research Leadership



  • Develop and direct a comprehensive translational research program within the Section of Interventional Pulmonology, with a primary focus on the development and clinical translation of novel therapeutics.





  • Lead pre-clinical and clinical translational research initiatives spanning laboratory discovery through early-phase clinical investigation.





  • Serve as Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator on investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials.





  • Build and lead multicenter clinical trials in collaboration with national research consortia, including organizations such as IPOG and Alliancefor Clinical Trials in Oncology.





  • Collaborate with investigators across the NYU Lung Cancer Center and Translational Lung Biology Laboratory to develop competitive federal, foundation, and industry-sponsored grant applications.





  • Expand NYU Langone Health's national and international research presence through scholarly publications, invited lectures, and leadership roles at scientific meetings.





  • Foster clinical and translationalresearch collaborations with biotech, pharmaceutical, and other industry partnersincluding biobanking, biospecimen analysis, pre-clinical testing, andearly-phaseclinical trials.



Clinical Responsibilities



  • Provide comprehensive Interventional Pulmonology care across inpatient and outpatient settings, includingdedicatedoperating room (OR) time per week for procedures.





  • Participateinthe inpatient Interventional Pulmonology consultation serviceat NYU Langone Main Campus (Tisch Hospital/Kimmel Pavilion),clinical weeks to bedetermined.



Education and Mentorship



  • Mentor Interventional Pulmonology fellow(s),Pulmonary & Critical Care fellows, and junior faculty in translational research and clinical investigation.





  • Foster research training opportunities and support career development for physician-scientistsand clinical investigators.





  • Participate in the academic mission ofNYUGrossman School of Medicine through teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activity.





  • MD or equivalent medical degree.





  • Board Certification in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.





  • Fellowship training and Board Certification in Interventional Pulmonology.





  • Demonstrated success in translational research with a strong publication record.





  • Experience leading clinical trials and obtaining extramural funding is preferred.





  • Commitment to academic excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and innovation.
