Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized tests, experiments, and data collection in support of research-oriented activities in the lab of Dr. Leah Acker at Duke University.

Work Performed

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, neurocognitive, and/or biological experiments and structured assays; perform other determinations to obtain data in support of research-oriented activities; compile and document procedures and results; and perform standardized preprocessing, quality assurance, and analysis techniques under supervision.

Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus, and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests. Perform quality assurance and troubleshooting in real time to ensure quality data collection. Appropriately and promptly escalate data quality or equipment concerns to a supervisor.

Operate various electronic devices in the collection, tabulation, and calculation of data. Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques. Use EEG and/or fMRI data processing and analysis techniques under supervision.

Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment. Review work of lower-level laboratory personnel and assist in the training of new personnel. Assist with the drafting of presentations, interim reports, or scientific manuscripts.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. This position is part-time and expected to work 19.9 hours per week. This part-time position is not benefit-eligible and will continue subject to funding.

Education/Training: Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other science-related field.

Skills: Quantitative skills required commensurate with an associate's degree in the mentioned fields in order to understand basic applications of statistics, and the physical and biological basis of the neurocognitive and imaging techniques used.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $26.49.
