Faculty Position in New Testament United Lutheran Seminary (ULS.edu) seeks applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in biblical studies, with an emphasis in New Testament. The appointment is open in rank, promotion and tenure decisions will be based on the experience of the candidate. The position start date is open for the Spring or Fall semester 2027. Candidates who apply should: Have a Ph.D. in the field of the New Testament Demonstrate a mastery of Greek and the ability to teach it Demonstrate an ability to train students in critical theoretical approaches to the study of the Bible (specific areas of specialization open) Demonstrate an ability to teach students the context of the New Testament within Second Temple Judaism and its Greco-Roman environment Demonstrate commitment to forming leaders for ministry in a broadly ecumenical context, with attention to ULS's denominational commitments.
The successful candidate should be prepared to: Offer five courses per year in a variety of degree programs [M Div, MA, STM, D Min and Ph.D.] including online, hybrid and intensive courses Utilize (with any necessary training provided) technology in the classroom and in online teaching, e.g., Zoom, Canvas (LMS), and Accordance Bible software Advise students Participate in committee work Participate in the life of the seminary community Participate in continuing education and training for pastors, lay professionals, and laity. Professors in ELCA seminaries also participate in the ordination process for ELCA candidates. Engage in research and publication in the field of New Testament studies United Lutheran Seminary has campuses in Gettysburg and Philadelphia. Residency can be at either campus, but occasional travel and teaching between the two campuses is expected.
