Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Maintenance & Tooling Engineering Manager to be based out of New Bedford, MA. Reporting to the Director of Quality & Operational Excellence, this person will be responsible for driving Maintenance Excellence at multi-sites, Tool Room management including operating within the Atkore Business Systems (ABS).

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering with 5-7 years of major professional accomplishments, including increasing responsibility and leadership of projects and teams, and 3-5 years maintenance or mechanical background. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is required.

What you'll do:



  • Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance programs for all facilities, equipment, and machinery to achieve uptime and reliability targets.
  • Lead the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Lean methodologies to improve maintenance effectiveness and reduce operational costs.
  • Conduct and oversee root cause analysis (RCA) for downtime events exceeding one shift, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Lead Kaizen events and drive continuous improvement initiatives while coaching maintenance teams on Maintenance Excellence principles.
  • Establish and maintain standardized audit programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) systems.
  • Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, including equipment replacement, new technology implementation, and facility upgrades to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee tooling operations, including design, procurement, repair, and inventory management across all facilities.
  • Monitor and control repair and maintenance (R&M) expenditures to ensure alignment with budget targets.
  • Lead capacity utilization initiatives within the Flaherty Tool Room, ensuring machining centers operate above 90% capacity and projects are delivered on time.
  • Develop and implement technical and leadership training programs for Maintenance Supervisors, Mechanics, and Electricians.
  • Ensure adherence to 5S standards within maintenance areas and tooling storage locations to support safety and operational efficiency.
  • Track, analyze, and report key performance metrics including MTTR, MTBF, equipment uptime, PM compliance, R&M spend vs. budget, and on-time project delivery.
  • Develop and execute PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) improvement plans when performance metrics fall below targets.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 5-7 years of major professional accomplishments, including increasing responsibility and leadership of projects and teams.
  • 5-10 years in multi-site facility and equipment maintenance including troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Experienced in leading tool room/machine shop to deliver growth in technology and revenue.
  • Experienced in managing direct reports across multi-site including team development
  • Proficiency in CMMS, TPM and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience in multi-project management including resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and team building skills that have resulted in strategic and tactical goal attainment.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Understand your team's strengths and opportunities.
  • Gain an understanding of the products and processes.
  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and provide corrective measures for on-the-job accidents, injuries, customer complaints, and labor relations issues.
  • Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.
  • Take full ownership of the Value Stream's Lean Daily Management, including Daily Gemba Walks, KPI and KAI boards.
  • Fully understand how you and your team impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Update training materials and procedures, as necessary.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Be managing an efficient team that delivers Atkore's strategy.
  • Create and update reports, training materials and documentation.
  • Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.
  • Drive Lean Excellence strategy for your Value Stream. Develop strategies and implement projects to improve SQDC.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $111,360 - $153,120. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
