The starting rate of pay for this position is $53.17per hour.

A vacancy exists for the position of Heavy Equipment & Transport Operator. This job classification shall possess the ability to learn the required duties necessary to use all tools and equipment related to the work group and to obtain and maintain the necessary licenses to perform all the duties of this classification. They must be able to complete the task sign offs in twelve (12) months. Please see the attached job description and outline for the interview.

Normal Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL within 60 days of hire.

  • Must obtain and maintain tanker, HAZMAT, and doubles/triples endorsements within one year of hire date.

  • Must have ability to obtain Crane Institute Certification (CIC)

  • Available to work overtime

  • Ability to follow instructions

  • Ability to work in harmony with others

  • Physically able to bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods of time

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Crane Certification is preferred

Outline for Job Specific Skills Tests

In order to qualify for this position, you will have to progress through two different exams. The first will be a written test that must be passed with a score of 85% or better. Upon successful completion of the first exam, you will then move into the physical skills stage and progress to the interview. Each step of the process must be passed in order to progress to the next step.

We are providing the below study outline to prepare for these tests and interview. By using this outline, and centralized study times in the areas listed below, you should be able to maximize your test results.

WRITTEN TECHNICAL TEST

  • Backhoe/Dump Truck Operations

INTERVIEW

The interview is a behavioral based interview incorporating our Core Competencies. In this process we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and more recent behavior is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and that long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. The interview questions are designed to solicit behavior patterns that indicate predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required.

How do you get ready for the interview?

Analyze the job or position being interviewed for and determine the skills required. Evaluate your own background to identify your skills and experience related to the job. Develop & Rehearse brief scenarios about how you used those skills, each illustrating a specific activity of task required by the job. POSITION DESCRIPTION

This job classification shall possess the ability to learn the required duties necessary to use all tools and equipment relative to the work group and to obtain and maintain the necessary licenses to perform all the duties of this classification. He/she must be able to complete the task sign offs in twelve (12) months.

Essential Functions: (As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, these include the following responsibilities, minimum job knowledge, skills, and abilities. This is not necessarily an all-inclusive listing.)

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • Familiar with the Company's Safety Manual, Traffic Control Manual, Standards, accounting procedures, rigging procedures, heavy lifting procedures, and other procedures and applicable rules and regulations.

  • Successfully pass all training requirements (task sign offs). Inspect and maintain equipment as required

  • Load and secure loads on all equipment

  • Operate and drive equipment up to and including vehicles with more than 44,000 lbs/GVR and powered by engines of 200 or more horsepower with a standard transmission with at least two ranges and a combination of both mechanical and air controls

  • Responsible for loading and over-the road transport. Some of the materials and equipment may be designed as hazardous and some will be liquids or dry materials which may be flammable.

  • Specific examples of duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Pole hauling and removal

  • Pole-Hole digging

  • Excavation projects

  • Crane service

  • Coal Handling

  • Soil Cementing

  • Concrete Finishing

  • Demolition Projects

  • Over-the-road transport

  • Bulldozer and grader service

  • Other tasks and assignments as directed

  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures

  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • (CDL) -Commercial Driver's License

  • Crane Certifications of 75 tons or more

  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing

  • High level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs and the Company

  • Must have an Operating EngineerJourneyman Card, or equivalent
