Position Overview
This position is responsible for the routine operations of Libraries delivery service, with major participation in the handling of the incoming campus, U.S. and package service mail, with a major role in the movement of pre-packed containers transferred from one library unit to another, and the collection and processing of outgoing mail of all categories. This position will also be responsible for assisting with the support of other Libraries' operations and special projects as needed.

The person in this position regularly interacts with library staff and external customers and in doing so is expected to demonstrate professionalism and a welcoming environment for all libraries staff and patrons.

Job Description
60% - Material Receipt, Processing Services and Delivery:
  • Sorting and delivery of the daily receipts from campus, U.S. mail and package delivery services.
  • Preparation of commercial packages and pre-sort mail shipments.
  • Gathering library materials and packaging them in tubs for delivery.
  • Unloading tubs from branch libraries, sorting and delivering materials.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of library vehicles.
  • Daily trips to campus libraries for the transfer of internal material.
  • Follows standard routes for the delivery/collection of materials between six campus libraries.
  • Delivery will consist of 2 daily major routes, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon with other minor deliveries as needed.
  • Handles the internal routing of library materials, supplies, U.S. mail and other packages within Watson Library, ensuring timely delivery and pickup.

40% - General Support for Libraries Operations:
  • General support of library-wide operations such as assisting with the Library Annex inventory activities, assisting in the implementation of library moves and in the installation of library equipment, or assisting with meeting room or large meeting setup.
  • Work with the Director of Public Operations on routine tasks in support of Access Services operations and services. Tasks may include shelving books, retrieving requested books, shifting books as per instructions from the Stacks Maintenance Manager, covering basic service desk functions and more.
  • Event setup work, basic assembly of furniture, relocation of items, tidying of furniture, conducting building use head counts, etc.
  • Other duties related to general facilities operations may be assigned.
  • Learn the university's campus mail routes to serve as back-up when needed.

Position Requirements
  1. Ability to push and maneuver loaded carts and to frequently lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  2. Must hold valid Kansas Motor Vehicle Operators License.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency and two years of office experience or related experience or two years of post-secondary education.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Mail room experience.
  2. Shipping or warehouse experience.
