Position Summary
The Office of Information Technology ( OIT) at Winston-Salem State University is seeking a knowledgeable and service-oriented Banner Business System Analyst. OIT works to support and strengthen the academic, administrative, and associated research needs of all faculty, staff, and students at Winston-Salem State University through the provisioning, support, maintenance, availability, and outreach of Information Technology Services. This position serves as a member of the Banner Applications Solutions ( BAS) programming team supporting the University's ERP administrative application suite. The Banner Business Systems Analyst ( BSA) works with the University's Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP) system, Ellucian Banner to support the long and short term goals of the Division of Finance and Administration by creating and improving efficiency through process development, automation, and technical solutions.
The Banner Business Systems Analyst serves as the liaison between the Finance Business offices and IT as well as serving as the primary contact for Banner Finance issues. They will assist Finance and Administration in preparing internal and external reports from the Division of Finance and Administration, including, but not limited to annual financial statements, special requests from the Office of the State Controller, UNC General Administration, Office of the Chancellor, etc.

Responsibilities of the Banner Business System Analyst include:

  • Coordinate and participate in all tasks, projects, and implementations that involve technological projects which affect Finance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Test code, applications, systems per requirements and specifications, using industry best practice and department standards.
  • Maintain working relationships with supporting areas in providing production support, resolving and troubleshooting system and business rule problems.
  • Recommend system and functional modifications to aid in developing technical solutions, investigating alternative methods for solving problems of varying complexities.
  • Identify jobs/processes that could be automated and work on their automation.
  • Establish standards for user access and authorize and setup Banner finance security for all new access; review overall security periodically to determine appropriateness and minimize finance risks.
  • Coordinate with Financial Services staff and outside entities such as software service providers for upgrades and maintenance of the University's information systems insuring that all interfaces are working properly.
  • Assist Finance and Administration in the preparation of the financial statement reports.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Financial Business offices and IT.
  • Provide support by trouble shooting problems with Finance reports, processes, databases and applications.
  • Review the working details and technical operations of Banner Finance and related financial systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation of system modifications, stating the problem and requested action.
  • Design and write ad hoc reports using fourth generation reporting tools.
  • Act as Primary WebFocus developer for Finance reports. Implement and update automation of regular and ad hoc reports.
  • Apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) (General Ledger, Purchasing and A/P, etc.) and governmental accounting standards.
  • Serve as a resource to departments in assessing additional technical needs related to Finance, HR/Payroll, and Student Accounts areas.
  • Develop and monitor project plans to ensure tasks are competed per outlined standards and guidelines.
  • Conduct workshops/training sessions for internal users of a system and external users and external users -campus wide.

Department Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of Experience with Banner Finance or HR experience (or comparable ERP System) in a business systems analyst role.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, business process methodologies, data integration, or data extraction and reporting tools

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with Jaggaer, BDM, Slate, EAb products and UNC-Data Marts
  • Experience with collaboration tools, business analysis techniques, or online training technologies
  • Knowledge of one or more Ellucian Banner modules or applications
