Prep Cook Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Prep Cook position is responsible for supporting the cook in providing nourishing food to residents, and employees under sanitary conditions as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Prep Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner by providing assistance in all dietary functions. Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Supports the cook in preparing and providing nutritional meals to guests, staff and visitors as directed. 2. Supports food tray line to ensure trays are prepared according to diet cards in an efficient manner to meet scheduled meal and snack times. 3. Assure that established sanitation policies and procedures are followed at all times in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. 4. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies. 5. Assure that work area is clean and free of hazardous conditions such as spills, excess carts, and etc. 6. Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures. 7. Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. Ensure food and supply items are stored per standards. 8. Assure that equipment, tools and supplies are properly stored at all times. 9. Report all equipment malfunctions and breakdowns to the supervisor and keep the supervisor informed of supply needs. 10. Report all hazardous conditions and equipment along with any accidents/incidents to the Dietary Director. 11. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment. 12. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. 13. Ensure each residents receives person centered care. 14. Attend and participate in meetings and in-services as directed or scheduled. , This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility while pulling or pushing dietary carts. This position works mostly in the dietary department which can experience extreme temperature changes from excessive heat in the cooking area to freezing temperatures in walk-in freezers. This role may also come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping on a regular basis. The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing at least 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This position is part of a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holidays and work during inclement weather will be required. Required Education and Experience * High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education and Experience - will train the right candidate * One year experience as a Cook.
