We are looking for an Environmental Compliance Manager to join our team in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Position Overview: The Environmental Compliance Manager will report to the Vice President of Operations and Director of Environmental Engineering and be responsible for supporting environmental compliance programs. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, this role manages the Company's Great Lakes Regional Territory, with moderate travel (10%-25%) to established facilities across Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, Southeast Michigan, and Upstate New York. This position will work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety personnel to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. The successful candidate will possess a broad understanding of environmental compliance requirements across all environmental media, including air quality, stormwater, spill prevention, waste management, and general industrial environmental practices. This individual will assist with permitting, inspections, regulatory reporting, monitoring, recordkeeping, compliance audits, and implementation of environmental best management practices to support operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: * Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. * Maintain a working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental regulatory requirements. * Understand Company environmental policies, procedures, and programs. * Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of environmental permits, including air permits, stormwater permits, and related compliance documentation. * Conduct routine environmental inspections focusing on housekeeping, material storage, secondary containment, waste management, dust control, stormwater best management practices, and overall site environmental conditions to identify opportunities for improvement. * Review and maintain environmental compliance plants, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans. * Support facility compliance with visible emissions, opacity, and moisture content requirements through monitoring and inspections. * Assist facilities in complying with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management requirements, including waste characterization, storage, labeling, inspections, and disposal. * Support spill prevention and response activities, including spill prevention training, investigations, documentation, corrective actions, and implementation of preventative measures. * Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and safety personnel to investigate environmental issues and implement corrective and preventative actions. * Maintain environmental records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies. * Monitor changes to environmental regulations and communicate new compliance obligations to site management. * Provided administrative support to the Company Environmental Engineering Department, including permit tracking, regulatory reporting schedules, and maintenance of environmental compliance records. * Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance environmental performance and reduce regulatory risk. Qualifications: * 5+ years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, steel production, mining, construction materials, or a similar industrial environment. * Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required. Equivalent environmental compliance experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. * Working knowledge of Federal environmental regulations and State environmental compliance requirements, particularly those administered by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). * Demonstrated experience managing compliance across multiple environmental media, including: * Air permitting and compliance * Stormwater permitting and SWPPP requirement * SPCC requirements * Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management * Spill response and pollution prevention * Opacity and visible emissions requirements * Industrial housekeeping and environmental best management practices * Experience interpreting environmental permits and translating permit requirements into operational compliance activities. * Experience conducting environmental inspections, compliance audits, and implementing corrective actions. * Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing permit applications, regulatory reports, compliance documentation, and agency correspondence. * Ability to effectively communicate with operations personnel, facility management, consultants, regulatory agencies, and Company management. * Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines. * Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams). * Willingness to travel up to 25% to support environmental compliance activities in the Company's Great Lakes Regional Territory.
