Job Summary

The Invasive Cardiovascular "Cardiac Catheterization" Labs, aka Cardiac Cath Lab, are specialized invasive procedure rooms where diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral-vascular procedures are performed under fluoroscopy on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Cardiovascular Technician (CVT) is an integral part of the Invasive team and is responsible for the monitoring and for the safe use of all radiological equipment. ln addition, the CVT is required to work in the OR 45 Hybrid Suite to assist with CVT duties outlined in this position description. The ideal incumbent will have experience or a strong knowledge base with the operation of hemodynamic monitoring equipment used for cardiovascular procedures in both the Cardiac Catheterization and OR settings. Duties include: invasive hemodynamic monitoring and recording pre/post procedure preparation including patient transport as required, digital imaging processing, assistance with inventory control and supply management/usage, and assists in maintaining a safe work environment. #C#CA-SB

Cardiovascular Tech 1

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Graduation from an Accredited Cardiovascular Program or Allied Health Program is required.
  • 1 year experience as a CVT tech with Adult, Pediatric, Structural Heart and Vascular experience. Will consider course work in lieu of work experience
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate radiology (RT only) and auxiliary equipment for assigned modality to provide quality images. Knowledge of processor maintenance and imaging techniques.
  • Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiological field advances.

  • Judgment skills to be able to make independent clinical decisions within scope of practice.
  • Set priorities, organize work independently for self and others. Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory supplies and their location.
  • Teach safety practices and equipment operational practices.
  • Participate in establishing policies and procedures; participate in on-going CQI program,
  • Provide orientation and instruction to new cath lab staff; provide teaching to fellows, nursing students and visitors.
  • Willing and able to work in a cooperative fashion with other staff members.
  • Knowledge and skills to comply with AORN standards
  • Ability to work over-time as required.
  • Ability to meet 30 minute emergency call-back/on-call requirements.

Cardiovascular Technician 2 - all the above and the following

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Three (3) years recent Primary Cath Experience, with experience of being first assist and scrubbing cases (Structural Heart, Vascualar and Hybrid OR Cases)
  • Knowledgeable of PACS, EPIC, MAC Lab and inventory management system
  • Knowledge of processor maintenance and imaging techniques.
  • Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiological field advances.

Preferred Qualifications

Cardiovascular Technician 1

  • Valid California Radiologist Technologist License preferred.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification is preferred. The candidate must be eligible for and pass the RCIS exam within 2 years from the date of employment. If eligible prior to 1 year the candidate must take the RCIS exam and pass as soon as eligibility criteria met.
