Position Summary
The Division of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine seeks an accomplished academic physician to serve as its next Division Chief. This is an Open Rank faculty position that includes an at-will secondary appointment as Division Chief. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
UNC Hospital Medicine is a nationally recognized academic division within a top-ranked academic health system, providing care across multiple sites, including UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals Hillsborough. The Division Chief will lead a large and dynamic group of academic hospitalists and play a critical role in advancing the division's missions of clinical excellence, medical education, research, quality improvement, patient safety, and faculty development.
The successful candidate will be a visionary, collaborative, and innovative leader with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in academic medicine. The Division Chief will provide strategic leadership for a robust academic practice and foster the continued growth of the division's programs in research, education, complex clinical care, and quality and safety initiatives. Responsibilities will include a combination of administrative, clinical, educational, and scholarly activities, while partnering closely with departmental and health system leadership to support the division's continued growth and success.
The Division Chief will be expected to recruit, develop, mentor, and retain outstanding faculty and staff; promote an inclusive and collaborative culture; advance educational programs for learners at all levels; and support scholarly productivity across the division. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively lead a multifaceted academic division through a period of continued growth and innovation.
In addition to division leadership responsibilities, the selected candidate will maintain an active clinical practice within UNC Hospital Medicine, with opportunities to participate in both teaching and non-teaching services across UNC Health facilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
M.D. or D.O. medical degree.
Completion of residency training in Internal Medicine or Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine, hospital medicine, healthcare administration, medical education, research, quality improvement, or related areas.
Record of clinical excellence and commitment to patient-centered care.
Evidence of scholarly achievement and academic productivity appropriate for faculty rank.
Strong leadership, mentorship, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to inspire and develop faculty, foster collaboration, and effectively manage a complex academic division.
Significant leadership experience within academic hospital medicine.
Experience leading programs related to quality, safety, operations, education, research, faculty development, or healthcare innovation.
Demonstrated success in strategic planning, recruitment, mentorship, and building high-performing teams.
A clear vision for advancing the mission and impact of an academic division of hospital medicine.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
