Description

The Senior Lease Accountant is responsible for managing the accounting, reporting, and lifecycle tracking of rental equipment assets subject to synthetic lease structures. This role requires deep expertise in lease accounting, asset management, and financing arrangements, particularly for equipment placed under synthetic lease agreements with financial institutions. The position plays a key role in supporting asset financing transactions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations



  • Gather, validate, and organize detailed asset-level data to support financing transactions with banks and lessors
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external financial institutions to place rental assets into synthetic lease structures
  • Review and interpret lease agreements to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance
  • Support initial lease setup, documentation, and onboarding into accounting systems
  • Maintain detailed tracking of all assets under synthetic lease arrangements, including asset identification and classification, lease terms and payment schedules, residual values and buyout provisions
  • Monitor lease activity including additions, modifications, and terminations
  • Reconcile lease schedules to the general ledger on a recurring basis
  • Track the full lifecycle of rental equipment under lease from acquisition through disposition
  • Manage and account for lease payoffs, early terminations, and residual buybacks and purchase options
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for asset transfers between rental fleet, lease-financed assets, and owned assets
  • Perform profitability analysis on rental fleet
  • Calculate and record depreciation for capitalized assets, including those tied to lease structures
  • Analyze and maintain residual value assumptions and asset valuations
  • Prepare supporting schedules for financial reporting, audits, and lender reporting
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to rental assets and leases
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis
  • Identify and implement process improvements related to lease tracking and asset accounting
  • Maintain strong internal controls over asset records and lease obligations
  • Handle special projects and other tasks assigned by management


Qualifications

Education



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting is required


Experience



  • 5+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated experience in lease accounting, fixed asset accounting, and equipment or rental-intensive industries
  • Extensive knowledge of synthetic leases and structured financing arrangements
  • Strong understanding of ASC 842 lease accounting and fixed asset and depreciation methodologies
  • Experience managing or supporting asset-based lending or equipment financing and lease tracking systems
  • Advanced Excel skills, strong reconciliation ability, and documentation discipline
  • Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft AX 2012/D365)
