Build the structure, systems, and team culture that help critical pathology services operate with precision. UVA Health is seeking an experienced supervisor to lead the administrative support team within Anatomical Pathology. This newly established position offers the opportunity to shape a high-impact leadership role, develop a growing team, and strengthen the workflows that support specimen management, diagnostic services, and patient care. The Role As Supervisor of the Pathology Admin Support Team, you will provide operational leadership for non-technical staff supporting Surgical Pathology, Histology, Cytology, and pathologists. You will oversee a team responsible for specimen accessioning, material tracking, consult coordination, autopsy intake, and other essential administrative functions. This is a dynamic role for a collaborative leader who can create clarity in an evolving environment. You will learn the team's functions, assess existing workflows, and help employees manage changing volumes and priorities. Success requires sound judgment, a strong compliance mindset, and the willingness to work alongside the team when operational needs demand it. An average day may include:
The team supports operations that ultimately inform diagnosis and treatment. While direct patient contact is limited, the supervisor may occasionally help manage sensitive autopsy-related calls involving patients' family members. These interactions call for professionalism, composure, empathy, and thoughtful communication. The strongest candidates will bring at least three years of relevant supervisory experience, experience developing and maintaining policies, and a record of leading teams in regulated environments. Anatomical Pathology or healthcare experience is preferred, but leaders from financial services, human resources, information technology, risk management, compliance, or other highly regulated industries may also bring valuable transferable experience.
