Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on developing and implementing programs to establish, maintain, and improve patient quality care standards. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Performance Improvement/Quality duties: Identifies and executes performance improvement and quality opportunities across the enterprise, enabling successful transformations and driving cost savings, process and product quality, and achievement of business goals. Responsibilities also include partnering with business leaders to provide expert insight on existing processes and procedures, applies process improvement methodologies to achieve PI/Quality objectives, and builds process improvement capabilities. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Job Overview

This position develops, maintains, and supports execution of the Quality Management Plan and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program for the Solid Organ Transplant and VAD Programs. This position collaborates with inpatient and outpatient clinical transplant and VAD teams, Medical and Surgical Directors, and operational leaders to identify improvement opportunities, implement evidence-based change, measure outcomes, and sustain improvements. The position supports quality assurance, patient safety, regulatory compliance, continuous survey readiness, and optimal patient outcomes.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

2. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.

3. Three (3) years of RN experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree.

2. Three (3) years of Transplant or Med/Surg RN Experience.

3. Six (6) years of extensive work with healthcare technology and databases.

4. Experience in QAPI, performance improvement, regulatory readiness, and patient safety within solid organ transplant, advanced heart failure, VAD, or another highly regulated clinical program.

5. Experience in data analysis, audit methodology, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and change management.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory, accreditation, and certification requirements, including Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policies and membership requirements, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation for transplant programs, and The Joint Commission Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) certification requirements.

2. Supports development, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of the Quality Management Plan and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program for the Solid Organ Transplant and VAD Programs.

3. Manages the document control process for policies, standard operating procedures, clinical protocols, QAPI plans, and regulatory evidence, ensuring timely review, approval, revision, implementation, and staff communication.

4. Develops and completes scheduled and focused audits, tracers, gap analyses, and compliance monitoring; analyzes findings, identifies trends and improvement opportunities, and reports results to the Director of Quality and Regulatory and program leadership.

5. Collaborates with inpatient and outpatient Solid Organ Transplant and VAD clinical teams to translate audit findings, quality data, and identified risks into effective performance improvement interventions and sustained practice change.

6. Monitors and reviews patient safety reports, complaints, adverse events, near misses, and regulatory reportable events; supports case review, root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, corrective action plans, and effectiveness monitoring.

7. Supports preparation for QAPI and Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) meetings, including agenda development, case identification, case summaries, data validation, quality dashboards, minutes, action-item tracking, and follow-up.

8. Develops and maintains systems to document staff qualifications, orientation, training, competencies, annual education, and continuing professional development required for regulatory and certification readiness.

9. Supports continuous readiness for OPTN and CMS transplant surveys and The Joint Commission VAD certification reviews, including mock surveys, tracers, evidence-file preparation, gap remediation, and response to findings.

10. Oversees Solid Organ Transplant and VAD quality databases and registries and performs data entry, validation, reconciliation, retrieval, analysis, and reporting to ensure data integrity and timely submission.

11. Prepares and presents quality dashboards, outcome reports, audit findings, regulatory metrics, trends, benchmarks, and performance improvement updates for the Director of Quality and Regulatory, program leadership, QAPI, M&M, and governance committees.

12. Supports required reporting and documentation for OPTN, CMS, and applicable VAD registries, including STS Intermacs, within required timeframes.

13. Assists with Requests for Information (RFIs), payer quality reviews, designation applications, and other external requests requiring validated transplant and VAD quality or outcomes data.

14. Supports safe onboarding of new therapies, technologies, and clinical processes by completing readiness assessments, risk reviews, education plans, post-implementation audits, and outcome monitoring.

15. Maintains accurate meeting minutes, decision logs, corrective action plans, and follow-up documentation; tracks assigned actions through completion and verifies that improvements are sustained.

Physical Requirements:

1. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment.

2. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.

3. Ability to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.

4. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

6. Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient clinical teams in a high-performance, highly regulated environment.
