Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Tax & Treasury Accounting Professional to work on our Benefits, Tax, and Treasury Accounting team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

Tax & Treasury Accountant performs professional accounting activities supporting tax compliance and treasury/banking operations. This position is responsible for assigned tax research and reporting, account and bank reconciliations, treasury administration, financial controls, and audit support.

The successful candidate will have a solid accounting foundation, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to research and resolve routine to moderately complex financial issues. This position provides an opportunity to develop specialized knowledge in both tax and treasury.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned federal, state, local, and international tax compliance and reporting activities.
  • Research tax laws, regulations, and guidance and assist in determining the appropriate tax treatment of business transactions.
  • Analyze transactions and supporting documentation for tax reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Support tax filings, information reporting, tax reconciliations, self-assessments, and audits.
  • Prepare bank and general ledger reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items.
  • Monitor collateralized bank balances and support unclaimed-property reconciliation and reporting.
  • Maintain treasury and banking agreements, bank access, user profiles, signature cards, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate routine banking administration activities with financial institutions and internal personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation supporting tax and treasury activities.
  • Follow established accounting policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Identify discrepancies, research potential solutions, and escalate unusual or complex matters when appropriate.
  • Assist with improvements to tax and treasury processes, controls, and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Experience with reconciliations, financial analysis, reporting, or other professional accounting activities.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and resolve accounting and financial issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in tax accounting, tax compliance, treasury, banking, or general accounting.
  • Experience preparing bank or general ledger reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting tax reporting, tax research, or audit activities.
  • Experience with banking platforms, ERP systems, or other financial systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Job Information:

The pay range for this position is Level 2-Salary grade 420 ($57,444-$112,068). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Physical Requirements:

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, operate a computer keyboard or type, handle materials, or reach with hands and arms performing the essential functions of the classification. The duties require sitting for long periods, accessing stored file boxes and file cabinets and moving and organizing physical file materials. The employee must occasionally lift 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus, conduct research and inspect materials. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively in person, by telephone or electronic mail. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in an office setting where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
