Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Compliance

Job Description

The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) is seeking a highly analytical and collaborative Business Intelligence & Data Analyst II to support the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Compliance (OIEC). This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions, advancing data-informed decision-making, and supporting institutional reporting, compliance, and data governance initiatives.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Data Analytics, the successful candidate will work closely with campus partners to transform complex data into meaningful insights through dashboards, reports, visualizations, and analytical tools that support strategic planning and operational excellence.

Business Intelligence Development & Reporting (35%)

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, and visualizations that support institutional priorities and strategic initiatives.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions that address operational, compliance, and decision-support needs.
  • Continuously enhance business intelligence products to improve usability, relevance, accessibility, and performance.
  • Promote a data-informed culture through innovative reporting solutions and self-service analytics capabilities.

Data Modeling, Integration & Analytics (30%)

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic models, datasets, and data pipelines supporting enterprise-wide analytics,
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, data extractions, and transformation processes from institutional data sources.
  • Analyze complex data sets to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used in institutional reporting and analytics.

Stakeholder Consultation & Project Management (20%)

  • Partner with university leadership, academic departments, and administrative units to understand business needs and establish reporting priorities.
  • Lead analytics projects through the full lifecycle, including discovery, requirements gathering, development, testing, implementation, and post-deployment support.
  • Provide project updates, recommendations, and technical guidance to stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to improve data collection, retention, governance, and utilization practices.

Data Governance, Quality & Collaboration (10%)

  • Monitor and troubleshoot reporting, dashboard, and data integrity issues to ensure reliable business intelligence solutions.
  • Support compliance with institutional data governance standards, policies, and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research, Information Technology, Research Administration, Finance Information Systems, HRIS, and UM System partners on data governance, best practices, and enterprise reporting initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional efforts to enhance institutional data management and decision-support capabilities.

Training, Documentation & User Support (5%)

  • Develop and maintain user guides, technical documentation, and training materials for business intelligence solutions.
  • Deliver workshops and individualized support to enhance data literacy and effective use of reporting tools.
  • Serve as a resource for end users by providing consultation, troubleshooting assistance, and best-practice recommendations.

As with all positions, may perform other job-related responsibilities as needed to support departmental and campus-wide needs.

Shift

Monday-Friday, 40+ hours per week

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four or more years of experience developing Power BI dashboards, reports, data models, and analytics solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data transformation, and business intelligence reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure analytics services, or similar cloud-based analytics platforms.
  • Experience in higher education or another complex organizational environment.
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$75,000 - $90,000 commensurate with education and experience beyond minimum qualifications of the position
