The Role:

As the Executive Director, PMO and Portfolio Management, you will provide executive leadership for enterprise Information Services (IS) portfolio management, project governance, strategic planning, and PMO operations across the organization. Partnering closely with the VP of IS Consulting/Support Services, executive leadership, regional stakeholders, and cross-functional teams, you will oversee the planning, prioritization, execution, and performance of critical IS portfolios that support ministries and regions across Providence.

This role carries responsibility for advancing portfolio management best practices, strengthening governance frameworks, optimizing resource investments, and ensuring projects align with strategic business objectives. As Providence continues to transform and innovate, you will serve as a trusted advisor and influential leader who helps connect vision to execution through disciplined portfolio management and operational excellence.

What You'll Do:



  • Lead Enterprise Portfolio Strategy: Develop and oversee enterprise Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) practices that align technology investments with organizational priorities, ensuring projects deliver measurable value and support long-term strategic objectives.
  • Drive Governance and Prioritization Excellence: Establish and maintain robust portfolio governance processes, prioritization frameworks, and decision-making structures that support effective resource allocation, investment oversight, and strategic planning across Information Services.
  • Champion Strategic Execution: Partner with executive, business, operational, and technology leaders to evaluate, prioritize, and guide enterprise initiatives from concept through delivery, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies, budgets, and timelines.
  • Optimize Portfolio Performance: Oversee project portfolios through data-driven management practices, performance metrics, financial oversight, and capacity planning to maximize delivery effectiveness and business outcomes.
  • Advance PMO Standards and Methodologies: Lead the development and continuous improvement of project management methodologies, governance standards, project accounting practices, performance reporting, and portfolio management tools that create consistency across the organization.
  • Build Trusted Executive Partnerships: Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, ministry leaders, regional stakeholders, and governance councils by providing visibility into portfolio health, risks, opportunities, resource needs, and business value realization.
  • Lead Organizational Transformation: Support enterprise transformation initiatives by driving change management, process improvement, operational excellence, and organizational learning that enhances project delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and Inspire High-Performing Teams: Attract, develop, and lead talented project and portfolio management professionals while creating an environment focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous growth.
  • Drive Financial Stewardship: Collaborate closely with finance and operational leaders to support capital planning, budgeting, portfolio investment decisions, and value measurement while ensuring responsible stewardship of organizational resources.


What You'll Bring:

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's Degree in Information Services, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, including significant portfolio, program, or project management experience in large and complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide programs, portfolios, and strategic initiatives.


Portfolio & PMO Expertise



  • Extensive experience in project portfolio management, governance, strategic planning, resource capacity management, budgeting, and organizational prioritization.
  • Proven ability to implement portfolio management methodologies, frameworks, standards, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle management, portfolio governance, and enterprise delivery models.


Strategic Leadership Capabilities



  • Demonstrated ability to translate organizational strategy into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience driving business transformation, change management, process improvement, and large-scale organizational initiatives.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
