Pediatric Psychologist (Ph.D., Psy.D.)

Job Summary:

The CU DCAMH, PMHI, and CHCO have combined to transform children's mental health care in Colorado, building a coordinated system, grounded in collaboration and partnership, that provides all children with high-quality, evidence-based, youth- and family-centered care through an ambitious and comprehensive strategic plan. As part of this transformative work, we are seeking a full-time pediatric psychologist to join our efforts who has a vision towards advancing clinical care, research, and education to further the mission of the Division as a national leader in child mental health services. This psychologist will be dedicated to improving care for patients served in the Medical Day Treatment Program (.8) and in the Outpatient Medical Complexity Specialty Program (.2) at CHCO.

The Medical Day Treatment (MDT) Program, a partnership between CHCO and Aurora Public Schools, is a unique school and treatment program located at CHCO that provides educational, medical, and behavioral health support for children and adolescents with chronic medical diagnoses. Youth present with a wide range of medical diagnoses and psychological concerns that impact their ability to fully participate in a traditional academic setting. The psychologist, a member of the mental health team at MDT, works collaboratively with the larger multidisciplinary team that also includes nurses and educators, to support children and their families in the program. The psychologist will also assist with program development and support of day-to-day activities, including managing and responding to referrals, collaborating with Aurora Public Schools, and coordinating care with providers at CHCO and with professionals in the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide behavioral health services (individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and family-based support/intervention) to children and adolescents with medical and psychological diagnoses who are admitted to MDT.

• Consult with pediatric medical teams at CHCO to address behavioral health and environmental factors that impact child well-being including adherence to medical recommendations, adjustment to medical diagnosis and treatment, mental health concerns, behavioral difficulties, developmental considerations, and family factors.

• Collaborate with medical teams, allied health professionals, and resource partners including social work, family navigators, and community health professionals to deliver comprehensive, team-based care.

• Use evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of medical, behavioral, developmental, and mental health concerns.

• Contribute to the DOP teaching and scholarship in ways consistent with the expectations of CU faculty, advancing the standing of the Department

• Engage in service to the department, hospital, and local/regional/national organizations

• Maintain eligibility for CU faculty appointment

Work Location

The MDT program is an in-person program serving patients five days per week. MDT and an OP clinic location are located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as an Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

• 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

• Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.

• At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship.

Senior Instructor:

• 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

• Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.

• At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship.

Assistant Professor:

• 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

• Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.

• At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship.

Associate Professor:

• 4-7 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

• Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.

• At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship.

Professor:

• 7+ years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

• Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.

Ranks of Instructor and Senior Instructor will be on the TTE track and given an opportunity to switch tracks, if needed, at a later time.

Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks):

• Experience working with youth with chronic medical health needs and their families

• Experience working collaboratively with medical providers, community organizations, and schools, to support youth with medical and mental health needs

• Demonstrated skills using evidence-based treatment models including but not limited motivational interviewing, consultation models, and flexible application of behavioral and developmental interventions to address medical and mental health concerns

• Ability to deliver services in Spanish is strongly preferred

• Experience working in an academic medical center

• Experience working in an APA-accredited psychology training program

• Preference will be given to those who are eager to engage in all aspects of the academic mission (clinical, teaching, scholarship, and service)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Clinical skill in conducting brief and targeted assessments and consultations in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting

• Ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees across a wide array of clinical settings

• Capacity for flexibility and adaptability when delivering patient care in a unique, multidisciplinary setting

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clinical information sharing, training and supervision, and presentations/education to community audiences

• Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment

• Experience supervising, teaching, and training psychology trainees as well as other learners (e.g., medical students, nursing students)

• Experience working with diverse pediatric populations

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor, Senior Instructor: $105,000 to $120,000

Assistant Professor: $110,000 to $135,000

Associate Professor: $140,000 to $175,000

Professor: $180,000 to $240,000
