Staff Research Associate 1 - DLAM

Under supervision of the Animal Resources Manager, the
Staff Research Associate 1 will provide technical and paraveterinary services.
Major duties include but aren't limited to assisting in breeding colony management
and providing veterinary support services.

Salary Range: $30.12 - $35.92 Hourly

Required:

• Ability to communicate professionally and courteously on the phone, in person and by e-mail to a variety of people.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with faculty and staff that have
  varying degrees of veterinary medical training.
• Ability to complete tasks in an orderly and timely fashion.
• Ability to use or learn full capability of word processing
  software, e-mail, spreadsheets, the internet and other computer programs.
• Ability to work accurately and with detail.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Skill in writing clear and concise correspondence.
• Ability to euthanize rats and mice using CO2 chambers. Must be able to follow the procedures for
  euthanasia including the use of the CO2 chamber, as well as be able to
  ascertain that death has occurred. Knowledge
  of appropriate labeling and disposal of the animals euthanized, including
  bio-hazardous animals.
• Knowledge of and ability to accurately follow all SOPs associated with a GLP study,
  including required study procedures and GLP documentation procedures.
• Knowledge of and the ability to apply the concept of
  contamination control practices including engineering, administrative, and
  procedural controls for the containment of pathogens, including disinfection, and waste handling
  methods appropriate for work in bio-containment animal facilities up to BSL2
  level with BSL3 practices.

Preferred:

• Associate or bachelor's degree in related field.
• Skill in cleaning lab and autoclaving instruments.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to recognize
  and describe signs of clinical disease or injury in laboratory mice and rats.
• Ability to effectively handle and restrain rats and mice.
• Knowledge of research animal facility.
• Knowledge of rodent anatomy
