POSITION SPECIFICS

The Systems for Hybrid - Additive Process Engineering Lab (SHAPE Lab) lead by Dr. Guha Manogharan seeks candidates for the role of Research Engineer - Intermediate Professional. The mission of the SHAPE Labis to advance Additive Manufacturing: Design, Material Development and Biomedical Applications; Hybrid Manufacturing; Sand-Printing for Metal Casting. The Research Engineer supports research and development activities within additive hybrid manufacturing, specifically with hands-on machine tool integration with mobile robots and foundry operations through the application of known engineering principles and practices in order to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes.

  • Collaborate with project leadership with the development of digital sensors enabled foundry pilot demonstration facility.

  • Collaborate with engineering staff and senior engineering technologists in developing, defining, and/or deriving requirements to support the design, deployment, testing and validation of the additive hybrid technologies.

  • Develop 3D Sand-Printing, Casting, Quality Control, and Testing protocols.

  • Prepare, present and document project reports and presentations, and interface with sponsors and external collaborators.

  • Guide and provide input for technical work activities performed by engineering support staff and/or less experienced engineering technologists

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new engineering products and tooling to support the development of project systems

  • Perform design, development, fabrication, installation, and use of custom electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems

  • Prepare test plans, procedures, reports, and other forms of formal documentation

  • Develop specialized electrical, mechanical, and/or software tools to support testing of complex electromechanical systems

  • Utilize computer aided design software to develop electrical, mechanical, and/or software products

  • Collaborate with a broad range of interoffice organizations to accomplish all phases of project development

  • Conduct tests, provide results, address issues, and recommend modifications related to electrical, mechanical, or software subsystems

  • Within specific engineering discipline, maintain an up-to-date knowledge of and work towards developing an advanced knowledge of design and analysis tools, test and measurement equipment, languages, and available products and services

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree - Engineering or Science 1+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in Metallurgical in carbon and alloy steels, nickel-based alloys and controlled expansion alloys

  • Demonstrated Team player but able to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to work on large-scale projects

  • Demonstrated good oral and written communication

The work location will be fully on-site at University Park.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $72,300.00 - $108,444.00.
