Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

  1. Sets up and maintains cleanliness of exam rooms including periodic exam room disinfection and organization and removal of expired supplies.

  3. Provides in in reach and outreach to support practice quality initiatives and to support the model of population management.

  4. Prepares for and instructs patients about specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatments.

  5. Assists as needed with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatments, such as vaccines and injections, PRP, Allergy Testing.

  6. Obtains specimens as directed

  7. Use appliances and equipment correctly and maintains safe practice.

  8. Evaluates and documents patients' responses to nursing care in the electronic medical record, including pre/post procedures and treatments. Uses knowledge of cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in evaluating care for all ages of patients.

  9. Practices basic assessment and applies communication skills for the purpose of patient care and education.

  10. Administers and documents the administration of medication while maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration.

  11. Documents telephone messages and chart notes in a thorough and grammatically correct manner.

  12. Responds appropriately in emergencies. Is knowledgeable about the contents of the code blue cart and/or the emergency kits, and can initiate and assist in CPR. Understands the procedures for medical emergencies, code blue and other emergency/disaster situations. Participates in safety drills.

  13. Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, administrative and clinical practice. Complies with activities mandated by JCAHO/Title 22/NCQA. Completes annual competency testing as specified by Ambulatory and the individual practice.

A. Organizes activities based on the needs of patients while maintaining the effective flow of patients through the practice. Adjust clinical support activities to reflect changes in priorities during clinic sessions.

  2. Maintains accurate records and documentation which include patient complaints, nursing observations, interventions and care plan, nursing actions/teaching performed and patient response to the action.

  3. Obtains, records, and conveys information, clearly and concisely.

  4. Demonstrates courtesy, common sense, and follow-through in all telephone/electronic communications, maintaining the Telephone Standards as established by the Medical Center.

  5. Complete all tasks within assigned InBasket to include cross-coverage of

    InBaskets of other care team and other practices across Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Departments

  6. Fosters/maintains positive public relations (patients, family, visitors and staff). Uses effective communication skills with patients and staff; demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette; shows sensitivity to differences of culture; demonstrates a positive and supportive way patients perceive interactions as positive and supportive.

  7. Demonstrates ability to work as a team member with providers, supervisors, fellow nursing staff and clerical/administrative staff within the care team structure, with the practice team and in cross-organization relationships.

  8. Participates in daily huddles to support efficient and patient-centered care.

Administrative/Clerical Duties

  1. Greets and welcomes patients making eye contact and utilizing AIDET standards.

  2. Assists with scheduling nurse visit appointments providing appropriate instructions to patients.

  3. Discusses practice policies and procedures with patients and referring physicians.

  4. Answers questions about provider schedules and acts as a resource to

other medical center practices and ancillary service administrative staff.

  1. Triages telephone calls, screening for emergencies and routing all messages, requests for same day appointments, refill requests, etc. to the appropriate box.

  2. Covers Apex in-baskets and phone messages when other members of the team are absent.

  3. Demonstrates an ability to adjust priorities as required for smooth operation of the practice and notifies the clinical staff.

  4. Provides administrative support to providers in coordination of patient care (i.e. sending patient letters, educational materials, results of lab tests, etc.)

  5. Assists in maintaining current filing and scanning.

  6. Assists in chart prep for upcoming clinics


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of recent Registered Nurse clinical experience in an Ambulatory Clinic Setting

  • Minimum one year of recent Registered Nurse clinical experience in an OHNS or Allergy/Immunology Ambulatory Clinic

  • Minimum of one year experience with environmental allergy testing and immunotherapy, including skin testing and immunotherapy preparation and administration

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at Redwood Shores Specialty Care Clinic and Berkley Outpatient Center

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Quality Improvement projects

  • Experience with Red Cap

  • Experience with PRP

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification
