At RWJBarnabas Health, our Registered Nurses at Children's Specialized Hospital provide compassionate, specialized care that helps children with complex medical and rehabilitative needs achieve meaningful progress and greater independence. As a Per Diem Pediatric Rehabilitation RN, you'll provide individualized nursing care while partnering closely with patients, families, and an experienced interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. Through clinical expertise, education, advocacy, and collaboration, you'll help children work toward important medical, developmental, and functional goals. As a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Performing comprehensive nursing assessments and utilizing the nursing process to identify the individualized healthcare and rehabilitation needs of pediatric patients
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating pediatric rehabilitation plans of care based on each child's medical, developmental, and functional needs
  • Delivering compassionate, evidence-based nursing care while recognizing changes in patient condition and initiating appropriate clinical interventions
  • Collaborating with physicians, therapists, nursing professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care and progress toward rehabilitation goals
  • Providing individualized education to patients and families regarding care plans, treatments, rehabilitation goals, and ongoing healthcare needs
  • Partnering with parents and caregivers throughout the rehabilitation process while recognizing their essential role in each child's care and continued progress
  • Delegating appropriate responsibilities to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants based on patient needs, staff competencies, and established standards of practice
  • Serving as a clinical resource and role model for LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students, and newly hired staff
  • Promoting a safe, respectful, culturally sensitive, and family-centered environment for every patient and family
  • Assuming relief Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed while communicating patient needs and clinical concerns to nursing leadership and demonstrating effective problem-solving skills
