Responsibilities

The FIU BSA Intern will perform a variety of duties related to the operations of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) including:

  • Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts generated by the Bank's financial intelligence systems, including the AML management system and other fraud/suspicious activity monitoring systems and reports.
  • Gather, analyze, and document information related to potential suspicious or fraudulent activity, following FIU procedures and regulatory expectations.
  • Assist in preparing case summaries and supporting documentation for internal review and potential regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure that case records, documentation, and reports are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and bank policy.
  • Assist in testing and validating FIU systems including AML and fraud monitoring platforms.
  • Participate in assessing system performance and effectiveness (e.g., alert performance, data quality reviews, user testing under supervision).
  • Work with various business lines and departments to obtain information, clarify customer activity, and support investigations.
  • Keep the FIU management appraised of situations that may impact the effectiveness of the FIU functions.
  • Work with other business lines and departments as needed.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of, and demonstrate ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to this position, ensure ongoing adherence to policies, procedures, and internal controls, and meet all training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Ancillary Duties:

  • As a member of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), this position is also responsible to provide assistance wherever necessary to help the FIU and the Bank achieve various goals.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Current college junior or senior pursuing a degree in Economic Crime Investigation, Criminal Justice, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or Data/Analytics, or a related field focused on financial crime or risk management.
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0.
  • Alternate backgrounds may be considered with relevant experience, training, or coursework.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation of findings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain high ethical standards.
  • PC proficiency, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Other Job Information

Hours: 20 hours a week

Compensation: Commensurate with experience plus potential for annual merit increase.
