Under the direction of the Application Supervisor, the Applications Analyst serves as the primary technical expert and trusted partner for clinical and business systems supporting the UCLA School of Dentistry. This role combines application support, systems analysis, project leadership, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure critical technology solutions effectively support patient care, education, research, and operational excellence.

The Applications Analyst acts as a subject matter expert for a diverse portfolio of clinical and administrative applications, partnering with end users, leadership, vendors, and IT teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and implement innovative technology solutions. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing business needs, managing application enhancements, leading projects, supporting system integrations, and ensuring applications continue to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for supported clinical and business applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues while ensuring timely service and excellent customer support.
  • Analyze departmental workflows, operational processes, and business requirements to recommend and implement technology solutions.
  • Lead and support projects through the full lifecycle, including planning, requirements gathering, design, configuration, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Collaborate with vendors to manage system performance, resolve technical issues, and evaluate new functionality.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting to support operational decision-making and business objectives.
  • Conduct quality assurance, system integration testing, and validation activities to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, workflows, procedures, and user training materials.
  • Train and support end users to maximize application adoption and effectiveness.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical systems and issue escalation.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills, exceptional customer service, and experience supporting complex healthcare technology environments. Success in this role requires the ability to balance multiple priorities, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and continuously seek opportunities to improve systems and workflows.

This flexible hybrid role allows for a blend of remote and on-site work, requiring presence on-site as needed based on operational requirements. Please note, travel to the "home office" location is not reimbursed. Each employee will complete a FlexWork Agreement with their manager to outline expectations and ensure mutual understanding. These arrangements are periodically reviewed and may be adjusted or terminated as necessary.

Salary offers are based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full salary range for this position is $110,977.2 - $246,216.96 annually. The University anticipates offering a salary between the minimum and below the midpoint of this range.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with one, or more, of the following applications: Epic (Ambulatory modules including wisdom), axiUm, XDR, 3Shape applications.
  • Knowledge of HL7 and DICOM Standards
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of multiple areas of focus in application specialty areas. Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
  • Ability to research, organize, analyze, and synthesize data to support effective decision-making.
  • Must be detail oriented and have a knack for probing for information, in order to fully understand the underlying needs that influence how a system should be configured/ organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and work with people of all backgrounds, at all levels.
  • Effective leadership skills and strong customer service orientation.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey technical information to all levels of application users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult and stressful situations. Must be able to recognize problems, evaluate, and refer to the appropriate channels for action.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train, support, and work collaboratively with business owners, team members, and management.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrate proficiency with information systems technology, which also includes Microsoft Office Suite, email, intranet, internet, and other systems.
  • Experience in writing SQL queries, procedures, functions, and triggers.
  • Demonstrated skill in system workflow and business process flow analysis and design.
  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience as medium to large size medical center with increasing levels of responsibilities and complexity of projects and applications..
