What you can expect in this role As a Spectrum intern, you'll spend the summer working alongside two teams: your respective department and your intern cohort. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% on internship experiences that include a kickoff conference, professional development sessions and networking activities, webinars, community service, cross-functional projects and final presentations. This experience is designed to help you explore your interests, expand your network and leave with a deeper understanding of both your field and the impact of our business. Internship responsibilities may include:
- The Wireless Operations Engineering Intern provides hands-on support to the WiFi and 5G Operations team by assisting with network compliance auditing, configuration validation, change execution support, and automation development. This position plays a critical role in maintaining fleet health across 350+ wireless network devices, supporting upgrade campaigns, and contributing to tooling that reduces manual operational effort and improves service reliability for Spectrum Mobile and managed WiFi subscribers.
- Assist with fleet configuration compliance auditing by running automated checkers against device configs (firewalls, wireless access gateways, venue switches) and documenting deviations from published standards. - Support upgrade campaign execution by preparing pre-check documentation, validating maintenance windows, and assisting engineers with post-change verification and SITREP generation. - Develop and maintain Python-based operational scripts for tasks such as inventory reconciliation, config drift detection, and alert noise reduction - contributing to the team's internal automation library. - Participate in change management processes by helping draft Methods of Procedure (MOPs), tracking CRQ lifecycle stages, and ensuring documentation completeness for peer review. - Assist with network monitoring gap analysis by cross-referencing device inventories against monitoring platforms (Aletheia, Splunk, Rancid) and identifying devices not properly enrolled. - Support knowledge base maintenance by documenting tribal knowledge, creating runbooks for repeatable procedures, and updating architecture diagrams as network changes are executed. - Collaborate with senior engineers on incident response by pulling relevant data during outages, correlating alerts to recent changes, and drafting initial SITREP templates for review. - Contribute to dashboard and reporting development by generating compliance metrics, tracking campaign progress, and producing weekly status artifacts for leadership review.
Required qualifications
- Must be a rising senior with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a bachelor's degree
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
- Ability to travel locally to Spectrum intern development events and activities throughout the program
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship
