Under a shared services model, the Associate Director of Human Resources performs a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment and hiring, employee separations, appointment changes, coordination of annual performance reviews, employee and labor relations, leave administration, and faculty and staff search management. The Associate Director works closely with the Dean, Associate Dean for Administration, Finance and Research Operations, department heads, center directors, and operations staff to support the college's human resources needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Process, review, and monitor HR transactions using University HR systems, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion.
  • Prepare and process all academic offer letters, appointment documentation and maintain employee records and HR documentation in compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage full-cycle recruitment and hiring activities, including job descriptions, position approvals, advertising, search support, interviews, offers, and onboarding.
  • Support faculty and staff search committees by providing recruitment guidance, coordinating interviews, reviewing applicant materials, and monitoring recruiting systems.
  • Monitor probationary reviews, job description updates, stipends, overcompensation requests, volunteer and visiting appointments, and other personnel actions.
  • Review and process leave requests, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and University regulations, including FMLA, ADA, disability, sabbatical, and other leave programs.
  • Monitor employee time reporting, leave accruals, and benefits usage through University timekeeping and HR systems.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on HR policies, procedures, employee relations issues, and progressive discipline practices.
  • Administer faculty, staff, academic professional, researcher, student, temporary employee, and retiree appointments throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Serve as the college P&T coordinator.
  • Facilitate the preparation and submission of Board of Trustees (BOT) packets for tenure-track faculty proposals in collaboration with Unit Executive Officers (UEOs) and the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs.
  • Coordinate visa and immigration-related processes with the Office of International Services for international employees and visitors.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and campus-wide committees, meetings, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:


  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  2. 10 years of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of management principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Work-related experience making recommendations and decisions. Database reporting (i.e., EDDIE) and knowledge of university HR systems.
  • Completes work with a general degree of supervision; regularly provides guidance to, and acts as an informal resource for, others with less experience and exceptional attention to detail.
