Phlebotomist I Location: 6740 Alexander Bell DR, Columbia Md 21046 Duration: 5 months Schedule: 30am-5:30pm (8 hours during this time) (Mon-Fri) (on call every other weekend) Vaccines: ?Hepatitis B ?TB ?MMR ?T-DAP ?Flu ?Varicella ?COVID-19 Position Responsibilities Perform blood draws, including venipuncture using straight and/or butterfly needles. Properly label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and process specimens according to test requirements. Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients. Review physicians' orders and ensure laboratory requisitions match the correct specimen tubes. Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and maintain required temperature and specimen integrity. Update patient information and maintain accurate specimen and laboratory records. Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination. Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and established laboratory protocols. Attend required annual department training. Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Assist with troubleshooting, training, and making recommendations to improve workflow. Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment. Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. 0-2 years of relevant experience.
