Addiction Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronxconsist of the outpatient addiction clinic, opioid treatment program, and addiction consult service.Specifically, the Addiction Consult Service is a multidisciplinary service that provides acute substance use disorder (SUD) care to patients in Emergency Departments (EDs), Inpatient (IP) Units, SUD Walk-in Clinics, and throughout the hospital. The team is led by the Medical Directors of Addiction Services and includes physicians and nurse practitioners with addiction training, social workers, mental health clinicians, addiction counselors, peer counselors, and community health workers. The mission of the Addiction Consult Service is to improve patient access to and experience of evidence-based practices for SUD care, including medications for addiction treatment, SUD screening, brief intervention, referral to ongoing treatment (SBIRT), care coordination, harm reduction, and peer advocacy.

Opportunity Details:

  • Provideaddiction care and harm reduction services to patients in the ED, IP units, and SUD Walk-In Clinic.
  • Providesupervision of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on the Addiction Consult Service.
  • Collaboratewith the Addiction Consult Service Clinical Supervisor and other Addiction Consult Service staff to facilitate interconnection from the acute care setting to outpatient follow-up and ongoing care.
  • Participatein daily team huddles, regularly scheduled Addiction Consult Service staff meetings and case conferences, and departmental Grand Rounds.
  • Evaluateand treatpatients in acute withdrawal from substances, including alcohol and/or opioids.
  • Provideongoing medical treatment for patients with SUDs, including Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
  • Reviewlabs, EKGs, and other tests as clinically indicated and initiatereferrals for follow-up care.
  • Collaboratewith hospitalists and subspecialists, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical disciplines within the hospital.
  • Conductsuicide risk assessments (SAFE-T evaluations) in the SUD Walk-In Clinic.
  • Participatein medical and behavioral codes, as needed.
  • Provideopioid overdose education, naloxone training, and distribution of other harm reduction resources to patients and their friends and families.
  • Teachand trainfellows, residents, and medical students rotating on the Addiction Consult Service, as well as preparing didactic presentations, as needed.
  • Assistmedical leadership with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicineor Family Medicine.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
  • Active New York State Medical License.
  • Active DEA Registration, including waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
  • At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services preferred.

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $246,000* (board eligible); $256,000* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $366,120** (board eligible) and $377,120** (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.
  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year's average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,000) provided at no cost to you.
