Overview

The Sr. Analyst is responsible for analyzing trends related to the gas distribution system risk and for implementing data governance practices in Gas Operations. The Sr. Analyst will support the department with accessing data for custom and ad-hoc reporting and will analyze gas system performance through data analytics and trending. The successful candidate will be proficient in data analysis and coding, including SQL, to extract, manipulate, and analyze data to provide actionable insights. The Sr. Analyst will apply knowledge of system data and various engineering records to answer inquiries and help make sound business decisions. Additionally, the Sr. Analyst will perform geo-spatial queries using GIS products. The analytics and data governance initiatives will enhance the companys Distribution Integrity Management program and advance data quality across Gas Operations.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage and implement Gas Engineerings Integrity Management programs. This includes working with the vendor to upgrade and improve the prioritization program and manage the various programs that interact with the risk model.
  • Prepare and continuously improve routine data reporting mechanisms for all four operating areas.
  • Support the department with accessing data for custom and ad-hoc reporting and will help analyze gas system performance through data analytics and trending.
  • Drive the continuous improvement cycle through feedback to data owners and the enterprise Data Governance Office on the effectiveness of Data Governance practice and related policy.
  • Own metadata management, ensuring data catalog, glossary, and quality rules are up to date and standards are followed when new assets are added.
  • Prepare engineering analysis and present to all levels of the organization.
  • Utilize prioritization software and various data sets to recommend modifications and improve gas system performance.
  • Perform engineering analysis for operating areas to help interpret statistical information.
  • Utilize the DIMP Risk Model to interpret system risk.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare information for submittal to the PSC, NYC OEM, FDNY, Municipalities, etc. regarding engineering studies performed and requested.
  • Developing a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence of our customers and improve value for all our stakeholders.
  • Perform in-depth data analysis and develop complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from various sources.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years' experience full-time industry experience in gas, electric, steam or data analysis.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 3 years' experience full-time industry experience in gas, electric, steam or data analysis.
Relevant Work Experience
  • General working knowledge of geographic information system and/or mapping system(s), required.
  • Experience in statistical data trending and/or data analysis, required.
  • Experience creating PowerBI Dashboards, required.
  • Familiarity with database structures, preferred.
  • Experience with SQL, preferred.
  • Familiarity with database structures, preferred.
  • Experience with a programming language such as Python for data analysis, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required

  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to participate and travel to industry conferences, as needed.
  • Must be able to make fields visits and wear applicable personal protective equipment.
