Position Summary:

The Patient Financial Specialist coordinates a smooth patient flow process by educating patients on their financial responsibility and options. The Patient Financial Specialist must be able to multi-task and reprioritize in response to fluctuations in volume. This position requires being self-directed, well organized and exhibiting team oriented skills with the ability and desire to educate and advocate for patients and their families. The Patient Financial Specialist will have the ability to build rapport with a wide variety of individuals including clinical staff in order to meet the patient's needs.

Responsibilities:



  • Pre admission/admission insurance verification, pre-certification, screening for financial counseling and eligibility determination
  • Assists in obtaining or validating pre-certification, referrals, and authorization
  • Calculates and collects patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement
  • Explains and provides financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families
  • Demonstrates proactive interpersonal communications skills while dealing with patient concerns through telephone calls, emails and in-person conversations
  • Optimizes patient flow by using effective customer service/communication skills by communicating to internal and external customers, care team, and management
  • Cross-trained to support multiple patient and payer types. (ABA/OP, Commercial/MCO)
  • Back up for posting for Yakima and Tri-Cities billing
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting, or performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking, and hearing on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 90% of the time.

Non-Physical Requirements:



Education



  • High School Diploma, Required
  • Associates Degree, preferred


Experience



  • Hospital or Business office experience or patients accounts, required


Special Skills



  • Knowledge of health insurance payers or billing, Required
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet and Outlook
  • Ability to set priorities and use of proper judgment in difficult situations and be flexible
  • Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and self-starter
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Excellent investigative, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to various programs and systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in understanding registration work queues that affect workflo


Employment is conditional upon:

Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required

Work Schedule: Mon- Fri 8:00am- 5:00pm

Wage Range: $21.00-$25.75 per hour
