Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist

Under the general direction of neurodiagnostic leadership, the Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist provides advanced neurodiagnostic services and direct patient care across diverse age groups and complex clinical conditions. The position performs the full range of routine, ambulatory, and continuous long-term EEG monitoring, including care of patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and applies advanced technical expertise in pattern recognition and live continuous monitoring of scalp and stereotactic electroencephalograms.

The Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist also performs specialized neurodiagnostic procedures, including electrocorticography, intracarotid sodium amobarbital procedures (ISAP/Wada), and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) procedures. Working with a high degree of independent clinical judgment, the technologist evaluates complex clinical situations, establishes priorities, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support high-quality, patient-centered care.

As an experienced member of the neurodiagnostic team, the Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist serves as a clinical resource and subject matter expert, contributes to patient and staff education, and provides guidance to neurodiagnostic technologists, assistants, and students. The position demonstrates leadership and professional accountability while practicing in accordance with UC Davis Health policies, ABRET and ACNS guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or UC Davis Health CPR
• Must meet (1) one of the following (3) three options below:
• Option 1: Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) from the ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation;
• Option 2: Registered EEG Technologist (RET) from the Canadian Board of Registration of EEG Technologists (CBRET) and obtain Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) from the ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation within two years of the start date;
• Option 3: Completion of one of the acceptable recognized technologist credentials and one (1) year of clinical EEG experience. [Acceptable recognized credentials are: Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT), Certification for Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM), Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.) or Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT)] and obtain Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) from the ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation within two years of the start date
• Minimum education is satisfied through the attainment of the required licensure/certification
• Minimum of two (2) years of neurodiagnostic technician or technologist experience
• Advanced skills in routine EEG Examinations
• Skilled in Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (set up and disconnect)
• Skilled in Phase I Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (set up and disconnect)
• Skilled in Extended EEG Monitoring
• Skilled in ambulatory outpatient EEG (set up and disconnect)
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of current trends in Neurodiagnostic (EEG)
• Basic computer skills
• Skills and ability to measure and accurately apply disc electrodes to those predetermined areas utilizing knowledge of the International 10/20 system.
• Knowledge of electrode placement to accurately monitor physiological artifacts and apply additional electrodes
• Knowledge and skill levels in area of expertise to ensure the provision of the highest quality patient care services
• Must have the ability to apply basic principles and practices of neurodiagnostic technology to novel techniques and develop expertise in performing complex neurodiagnostic procedures
• Interpersonal communication skills to interact with tact and diplomacy with hospital and clinic patients, physicians, and staff at all levels
• Ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving with coworkers and staff
• Must have the ability to function as a "team player," being considerate and flexible, considering the needs of your peers
• Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful hospital, clinic, or laboratory environment always exists

• Knowledge of medical records is sufficient to establish and maintain a filing system that meets the laboratory's accessibility and storage needs and complies with all pertinent laws, regulations, and HIPAA guidelines
• Ability to learn departmental and system policies and procedures
• Ability to efficiently use computer systems to retrieve pertinent patient information through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Ability to maintain clinical databases
• Skilled in troubleshooting equipment
• Ability to maintain logs and files of information in alphabetical, chronological, and/or numerical order, such that it is current and easily retrievable

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) from the ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation
• Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM) Credential through ABRET
• Graduation from an EEG school/program
• Experience working in an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• Experience working in an acute care setting as an EEG Technician/Technologist
• Experience in monitoring live continuous EEG tracings
• Skilled in Continuous EEG/Video monitoring in an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
• Skilled in Live continuous EEG monitoring
• Skilled in Evoked Potentials such as Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP/BAER), Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP), and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP)
• Ability to perform advanced neurodiagnostic procedures: Electrocorticography (ECoG), Laser Ablation Surgical Monitoring (LITT), Wada Test / Intracarotid Sodium Amobarbital Procedure (Wada), Ictal Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), and Cortical Stimulation

Work Environment
