Responsibilities

St. Mary's Physician Associates is a multi-specialty group of employed physicians and midlevel providers that serve a ten-county area in NW Oklahoma. It is located in Enid, Oklahoma which is the county seat for Garfield County. Enid is the seventh largest city in Oklahoma with a population of approximately 65,000 but their primary service area in NW Oklahoma consists of 200,000. The group has satellite clinics in Hennessey, Fairview, Okeene, Woodward, and Ponca City. St. Mary's Physician Associates is affiliated with St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, a 229-bed facility. The Hospital has been recognized as an "A" rated facility by the Leapfrog Group, has obtained The Joint Commission Advanced Primary Stroke Center certification and the first hospital in Oklahoma to obtain Advanced Total Joint Replacement certification. The Hospital has also received awards for the Top 100 Safe Care Hospitals in the US, Award of Excellence by Health Grades for their Total Joint Replacement Program, received a Women's Choice Award for America's Best Hospitals for Obstetrics, Patient Safety and Emergency Care, they were named as a Top Workplace in Oklahoma, and many other prestigious awards. Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. TheMedical Office Specialistperforms administrative using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures:

  • Greets and registers patients in a prompt, pleasant, and helpful manner.
  • Checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines;
  • Assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures, charting;
  • Relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments;
  • Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information is completed and accurate.
  • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; restocking exam/procedure rooms.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completed a Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of medical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
