Job Summary

Our client is seeking an attorney who enjoys digging into complex facts, interpreting federal law, and turning detailed investigations into clear, defensible legal conclusions. This role supports a federal program responsible for evaluating civil rights complaints, reviewing investigative findings, and assessing compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate brings strong legal research and writing skills along with experience in investigations, administrative law, regulatory compliance, civil rights, or another practice area involving complex statutory analysis. Attorneys with exposure to First Amendment or constitutional issues are especially encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities



  • Evaluate civil rights complaints, allegations, evidence, and supporting documentation to determine appropriate next steps and case disposition.
  • Analyze investigative findings and complex factual records to identify relevant legal and compliance issues.
  • Research and interpret federal statutes, regulations, policies, and agency guidance.
  • Apply federal civil rights laws to individual cases and develop well-supported legal conclusions.
  • Prepare legal memoranda, investigative findings, case evaluations, correspondence, reports, dismissal letters, and recommendations.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or additional information needed to support a thorough case review.
  • Maintain organized case files and accurate documentation throughout the review process.
  • Collaborate with investigators, legal professionals, program staff, and other stakeholders to obtain information and resolve questions.
  • Support quality assurance activities by reviewing work for legal accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Manage multiple investigations or legal assignments while meeting established deadlines.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with applicable legal and organizational requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvements that strengthen the consistency and efficiency of case review activities.


Job Requirements



  • Experience supporting investigations, administrative law, litigation, regulatory compliance, civil rights matters, or other legal matters involving substantial factual and statutory analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience applying federal civil rights statutes, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination Act.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with experience producing legal memoranda, investigative reports, case evaluations, findings, correspondence, or legal recommendations.
  • Active bar license in good standing in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex facts and reach well-supported conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail when managing multiple cases or assignments.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • First Amendment, constitutional law, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting federal government legal, investigative, compliance, or administrative review functions preferred.


Education



  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.


Work Experience



  • Relevant experience may include civil rights, administrative law, investigations, litigation, regulatory compliance, employment law, constitutional law, or other legal practice involving complex statutory and factual analysis.
  • Experience applying federal civil rights laws within a government, legal, regulatory, investigative, or compliance environment preferred.
