Position Summary

Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures

The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer III to begin August 2, 2027. The department seeks to hire a specialist in Chinese Literature and Culture and East Asian Religions. Specifically, this joint hire with the Religious Studies Program, and the department seeks a Lecturer III with the potential to teach courses in Chinese literature and culture in translation in the LCL department, and courses on East Asian religions in Religious Studies as well as large lecture courses on topics of broad interest in the field.

In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate programs and perform service activities in East Asian Studies and Religious Studies. All Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the department Chair and University policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. PhD in Literature, Cultural Studies, Religious Studies, Philosophy or a related field by date of appointment (August 2, 2027)

2. The potential to teach courses in Chinese literature and culture, as well as courses on East Asian religions and courses on topics of broad interest in religious studies

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Native or near-native command of both Chinese and English.

2. Demonstrated potential to teach courses in Chinese literary, cultural, or media studies at the undergraduate level.

3. Demonstrated potential to teach large enrollment courses in East Asian Religion or World Religions.

4. Demonstrated potential to mentor students at the undergraduate level.

5. Demonstrated potential to contribute to program development for East Asian Studies and Religious Studies.

6. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
