Seeking a highly qualified mid-to-senior level associate with law firm experience and excellent academic credentials to join our Tax-Exempt Organizations team. This position may be resident in Chicago, New York, or San Francisco. The successful applicant must have a strong background in and experience with a wide variety of issues affecting tax-exempt organizations, including qualifying for and maintaining tax-exemption, restrictions on lobbying and political activity, the unrelated business income tax, Section 4958 intermediate sanctions, impact investing, tax planning and structuring, the Chapter 42 excise tax rules applicable to private foundations and donor-advised funds, and charitable contribution deduction rules. The applicant must also have relevant knowledge of state nonprofit corporation laws as well as best practices in nonprofit governance. They must possess excellent academic credentials and strong research, writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A successful applicant must be a team player who is willing to contribute to a wide range of tasks and who demonstrates curiosity and the ability to be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic setting with colleagues across offices and a wide range of substantive practice areas. For positions in California, Illinois, or New York, the salary wage range for this job posting is $225,000 to $435,000.
The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. Final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid-time-off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position," and the firm reserves the right to modify the base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
